In-Character

Read the following prompt:

The rhythmic lull of hoofbeats are a marching drum to the small group of pioneers and variety of folk you have found yourself amongst, packed into a wobbling wagon. The rolling plains of the Southern Reach and a clear sky stretch out all around you, the buzz of excited chatter a dull wash in your ears as your mind strays to your former life and what has led you here to new lands.

“Nervous?”

You blink, returning to the present moment. A kindly older woman sat near you is smiling warmly with a crinkle to her eyes.

“I can tell it’s your first time. Still remember mine,” she flashes a grin and leans in.

“Tell me my dear, why have you come to the Reach?”

How do you respond (in character)(250 word minimum - please make sure to include at least three references to our lore in your response, with two coming from different pages in the Compendium.  Two of the three selected should also be in-depth, avoid simply name-dropping lore terms. Tie the terms into your character's backstory. Why are they important to them?)

"I come from the deserts far to the east, driven by a desperate need to uncover a power that has been lost to time—a power once held by a civilization that flourished and then vanished, leaving nothing but whispers in the wind. My people have suffered much at the hands of their remnants—conflicts that have scarred us, curses passed down in fearful tales—yet we share the same blood. I am the first in generations to dare search for answers, for the others are too afraid to face the silence, too afraid of what might lie waiting in the ruins. They say the old ones disappeared without a trace, leaving behind nothing but crumbling spires and stones that seem to murmur secrets too dangerous to understand. Even the very air here feels different—oppressive, as if it recoils from the sacred spaces they left behind. Yet, despite all of this, something calls to me, as if a voice buried deep within the sands is beckoning me forward—calling me to seek out truths that my people have long forgotten. I have wandered through relentless storms and endless solitude, surviving on nothing but bitter roots and brackish water, my heart driven by more than just curiosity. It is a longing, an ache deep within my soul that whispers of a chance to restore what we’ve lost. The land is changing. The once-soft sands have given way to broken stone paths and shattered columns, half-swallowed by time. Symbols mark the ruins—ancient, fading, but still powerful, glowing faintly under the setting sun. There is a weight to the silence here, a heaviness in the air that feels as though the earth itself is holding its breath, waiting for something—or someone—to awaken it. And still, I press on, with each step growing more certain that I am on the brink of something that could bring life back to my people. I do not seek this power for glory, nor for conquest. I seek it because my people are dying, fading into the dust, forgotten by the world. We survive, but we do not live. The soil here, they say, remembers. Beneath it lies the strength of the old world, untouched, and waiting to be called upon once again. And far to the south, beyond the reach of any map, there stands a silhouette, tall and proud against the sky—a monument to ambition, or perhaps to failure. It looms over every story, a shadow that haunts the edges of my dreams, yet no one dares speak of it. To speak its name, they say, would be to awaken something ancient, something that should remain forgotten. But I cannot stay silent any longer. I will speak its name if it means bringing my people back to life."

(i tried my hardest and brought out my inner poet i havent used since 2nd grade to write this)

Character Name: Kaelen Raed

Character Race: Arsa Sidhe

Character Age: 74

Brief Physical Description:  He’s nearly seven feet tall, wrapped in battered iron armor that looks older than the ruins he walks through. The red cloak over his shoulders is torn and sun-bleached, the hood casting his face in shadow—no one’s seen what’s beneath. He has no name, no sigil, no weapon. But people know better than to stand in his way. He moves with purpose, slow and steady, like nothing’s ever stopped him—and when he stops, the world seems to hold its breath. Some say his armor hums near ancient places, that it remembers things long buried. Maybe he does too. Whatever he’s after, it isn’t glory. It’s something the world lost… and forgot to mourn.
