Staff Structure

Avalore's staff team is divided into six main teams: Community, Lore, Systems, Technical, Building, and Moderation. Lore and Community can be further broken down into several smaller sub-teams as well, each with their own team lead. These teams are overseen by our team of Admins. This page outlines each staff team, their responsibilities, and the rules around decision-making. Interested in joining staff? Fill out a staff application here!

Community

Admin: Community Faye (Spiritscribe)

The Community team is focused on outreach to players. They achieve this through three smaller teams: Engagement, Newsletters and Media. The Engagement team focuses on hosting out-of-character events for the Avalore community and keeping the playerbase engaged directly (Hosting movies and games, polls, handling community tickets, etc.). The Newsletter team focuses primarily on writing the monthly newsletter to keep Avalore members up to date on the going-ons of the server (events, server changes, etc.). The Media team focuses on creating content for Avalore (advertising, art, video and audio creation, etc.).

• Find our latest Newsletters in our forum announcements.

Mentors
Our mentors are individuals who help with new players, including by answering questions and processing whitelisting applications. A Mentor is not necessarily a member of staff, though many of them may sometimes be members of our Community team.

Lore

Admins: Lore TheDeester, Electricwisekid, Moony

The Lore team is responsible for all the storytelling that goes on in Avalore. That includes organizing our server campaigns, background setting and world-building lore, bestiary and flora, fable encounters, and arcane underlings.

To manage the vast workload of the Lore team, it is broken down into smaller teams, each with a team lead. Anyone in Lore can join as many of these smaller teams as they like, and can collaborate across them; the main purpose is that certain decisions about what each team handles can be decided by the team-lead, without needing approval from the Lore Admin. The Lore Admin reserves the right however to veto a decision of a team lead if they feel it is necessary - ideally with consultation of the team, first.

Anything that does not fall under a unique team is handled by the lore team at large, with any approvals coming from the Lore Admin.

Campaign
Lead: Lore ChishmFips

The Campaign team handles running of the server campaign, and as such each campaign will generally have a different person as the campaign team lead (and a different campaign team entirely!). While the team is led by a member of the Lore team, the members of the campaign team can be anyone, including normal player volunteers! We want our campaigns to be as accessible as possible which requires us opening up to as many people as possible.

Any decisions about the Campaign’s arc / trajectory, so long as it does not fundamentally change server lore, can be approved by the Campaign Lead.

• Find out more in the Campaigns page of our forums.

Flora & Fauna
Lead: Lore electricwisekid

The Flora & Fauna team is in charge of our entire bestiary, including your everyday creatures, fey, spectres, ghouls, necrophages, and vampires. Similarly, any unique lore around flora that may be used for alchemy is handled by this team, in coordination with Systems.

Any decisions about the lore of plants or creatures in Avalore, so long as it does not fundamentally change the setting of the world, can be approved by the Flora & Fauna lead.

• Find out more in the Bestiary section of the Compendium.

Setting & Worldbuilding
Lead: Lore Moony

The Setting & Worldbuilding team is in charge of maintaining our Compendium (with the exception of the bestiary), handling setting & historical questions, and reviewing lore submissions. New cultures, factions, politics, and historical events are all edited and approved by this team. This team is also responsible for DM'ing 'off-map' events, such as politics within the Valkian Realm.

Any decisions about notable places, minor factions and sub-cultures, or historical events in line with existing lore can be approved by the Setting & Worldbuilding lead. Changes involving new main cultures, major factions/locations (think continent sized), or historical events that fundamentally change the setting must be approved by the Lore Admin.

Fables
Leads: Lore ShinyBlue / Systems DerKommissar_

The Fables team is in charge of everything Fables: their lore, their custom/fabled feats, and of course, actual Fable encounters. This team is a hybrid, with the Lore side of things focused on the lore and events of fables, whereas the Systems side is focused more so on the custom feats and items Fables may give out. That being said, everyone on the system is encouraged to contribute to whatever matters they feel most connected with.

Any decisions about the lore or mechanics associated with Fables can be approved by both team leads, so long as it does not fundamentally change the worldbuilding / setting of the world. Generally, the Systems lead should defer to the Lore lead’s thoughts on lore, and vice versa for mechanics; but both should work together.

• Find out more in the Fables section of the Compendium.

Fey
Lead: Lore Moony

The Fey team is in charge of handling the creation of all things relating to the Fey. This includes how the Fey and their deals function, how players can interact with them, and all the surrounding existing and any possible new Fey and lore. At times they work in tandem with both the Flora & Fauna’s team lead and Systems as a whole to make sure stats and deals are in line with what is balanced for the server.

Any decisions about the types of Fey, Fey submissions and creations, and Fey lore can be approved by the Fey lead. Similar to Worldbuilding, any changes that would fundamentally affect the server would need to be approved by the Lore Admin.

• Find out more in the Fey section of the Compendium.

Nocturne
Lead: Lore DerKommissar_

The Nocturne team is a smaller and more specialized team that handles anything relating to the Nocturne. Any questions, events, lore and more relating to the Nocturne would go through this team.

Any decisions about how the Nocturne is utilized, access to it, and new submissions for it, so long as they do not fundamentally change the server and setting of the world, can be approved by the Nocturne lead.

Staff DMs
Staff DMs are individuals who have applied for and are entrusted with more responsibility and access to the systems of Avalore. Their main task is handling by-request staff DMing, such as guards, patron underlings, Fables, and vampire turnings. They are also given access to various staff commands and the ability to DM creatures that player DMs cannot. However, like Mentors, StaffDM are not full members of a specific team but fall under the jurisdiction of Lore.

Systems

Admin: Systems Reedie_

The Systems team is responsible for all the mechanical sides of Avalore, i.e. our custom game rules that make roleplay and combat possible. This includes combat mechanics (weapons, armour, health, etc.), feats, the arcane*, alchemy, crafting, and XP progression.

As we want all of our mechanics to be cohesive with each other, all of Systems reviews all mechanics on a rotating basis, rather than having separate teams for each part of the team’s responsibility (with the exception of Fables which are a hybrid team with Lore).

* Arcane underlings can be DM’d by any Systems or Lore member, so long as they have discussed it with the staff member in charge of a given patron.

• Find out more in the Mechanics page of our forums.

Technical

Admin: Technical Reedie_

The Technical team is responsible for a different mechanical aspect of Avalore. Rather than mechanics used ICly, they handle all the mechanics that ensure Avalore runs smoothly from an OOC side. This includes plugins, optional modpacks, commands, fixing bugs and errors, and maintaining the forums. If a user ever has an issue with a plugin, needs a region made, or generally sees something out of place they can make a tech ticket.

Build

Admin: Build Reedie_

Lead: Build Pyrias (Lyressi0887)

The Build team is responsible for maintaining Avalore’s visual aesthetics through building new structures and landmarks, as well as landscaping the terrain as needed. They also aid the Lore team by creating event sites and locations when possible. The Build team is entrusted to refresh prior creations as needed, and is at liberty to request members to revert or change anything built that severely impacts the aesthetics laid out by the Build team. The Build team also approves builds and changes to builds.

Moderation

Admin: Moderation  Moony

Moderation, while functionally a staff team, is not always comprised of team members that are considered staff on Avalore. The reason for this is to ensure that there is less of a chance for bias when making rulings or decisions that may include staff members on Avalore. This is also one of the only staff teams that cannot be applied for. Moderators are chosen through a careful selection process as needed. For more information on how the team functions or makes decisions please review to Avalore's Moderation Policy here
