In-Character
Read the following prompt:
The rhythmic lull of hoofbeats are a marching drum to the small group of pioneers and variety of folk you have found yourself amongst, packed into a wobbling wagon. The rolling plains of the Southern Reach and a clear sky stretch out all around you, the buzz of excited chatter a dull wash in your ears as your mind strays to your former life and what has led you here to new lands.
“Nervous?”
You blink, returning to the present moment. A kindly older woman sat near you is smiling warmly with a crinkle to her eyes.
“I can tell it’s your first time. Still remember mine,” she flashes a grin and leans in.
“Tell me my dear, why have you come to the Reach?”
How do you respond (in character)? (250 word minimum - please make sure to include at least three references to our lore in your response, with two coming from different pages in the Compendium. Two of the three selected should also be in-depth, and avoid simply name-dropping lore terms. Tie the terms into your character's backstory. Why are they important to them?)

The hum of the wagon’s wheels beneath him barely reached Reiyn’s ears as the woman’s voice cut through the haze of his thoughts. She spoke kindly, but he had already retreated back into the folds of his memories, the rhythmic movement of the horse a steady beat to the restless storm inside him.
Her question pulled him back to the present. "Why have I come to the Reach?"
He could hear the wind rustling through the fields outside, the plains stretching endlessly beneath the clear sky. The southern winds had always felt foreign, different from the oppressive stillness of the facility that had been his prison for years. His fingers brushed lightly against the scar across his face, the crimson mark that told a story of suffering—one he had never asked to live.
“I came,” he started, his voice barely above a murmur, “To start anew. Life hasn't been so kind to me, so I decided that a location change might do me some good.” He let out a breath, steadying himself with a hopeful but nervous smile.
The experiments, the agony, the fractured pieces of his memory—these were things he wanted to bury. But in the back of his mind, the runes carved into his back still pulsed like a warning. Shattered Realms weren’t just a myth; they were his reality, a place where the line between magic and madness blurred. He didn’t speak of this, not to anyone, but the Reach felt different—there were no containment walls here, no endless, sterile halls of pain.
“Where I’m from... magic is something you don’t control,” he continued, glancing at the woman. “But here, it feels like it’s... more alive. Maybe someone can help me. Show me around, I guess.” Reiyn knew that deep down, his journey had just begun. The Reach could offer him what no lab ever had—freedom. If only he could find a way to control the fire within him.
