Read the following prompt:
The rhythmic lull of hoofbeats are a marching drum to the small group of pioneers and variety of folk you have found yourself amongst, packed into a wobbling wagon. The rolling plains of the Southern Reach and a clear sky stretch out all around you, the buzz of excited chatter a dull wash in your ears as your mind strays to your former life and what has led you here to new lands.
“Nervous?”
You blink, returning to the present moment. A kindly older woman sat near you is smiling warmly with a crinkle to her eyes.
“I can tell it’s your first time. Still remember mine,” she flashes a grin and leans in.
“Tell me my dear, why have you come to the Reach?”

—"I was born near the base of the Wall, in a little vineyard tucked between hills and azalea fields. My family’s worked that land for generations. Growing grapes, pressing wine, trading what we could. Rulan folk don’t often stray far, and I didn’t plan to, either. But seasons changed. A blight ruined two harvests, debts piled higher than our barrels, and my brothers were sent off to join the patrols. I stayed behind, tried to hold things together. When that wasn’t enough, I left for the Mist Isles, to take work as a housekeeper. My family knew someone who was willing to take me."
I pause, recalling the salt air, the way the Mistan would sing when storms rolled in, their voices carrying like old magic over the waves. They told stories of the Siren Serene, and how she watches over those who brave her waters. I liked to think she heard me once or twice.
"But I couldn’t stay. I couldn’t keep sending coin while watching the horizon grow farther each day. So when news reached me of the Southern Reach opening to more newcomers, I thought, why not? It’s close enough to return if I’m needed, far enough to try something new. I know vines and cellars, I know how to work, and I’d rather be part of something honest than watch my family’s land get swallowed by levies and silence." I meet her eyes then, steady and plain. "I came to the Reach for work, sure. But also to prove we Rulan daughters can do more than wait."

With light blue eyes and braided blonde hair, Helene stands at 5'8", her figure lean but shapely toned from years of vineyard work and housekeeping while her curves are subtle, the kind that speak of strength rather than indulgence. Her skin carries a fair hue from days spent under open skies while there is a small beauty mark which rests beneath her left eye. Though she dresses modestly, there's no mistaking the quiet allure she prides herself of.
