In-Character
Read the following prompt:
The rhythmic lull of hoofbeats are a marching drum to the small group of pioneers and variety of folk you have found yourself amongst, packed into a wobbling wagon. The rolling plains of the Southern Reach and a clear sky stretch out all around you, the buzz of excited chatter a dull wash in your ears as your mind strays to your former life and what has led you here to new lands.
“Nervous?”
You blink, returning to the present moment. A kindly older woman sat near you is smiling warmly with a crinkle to her eyes.
“I can tell it’s your first time. Still remember mine,” she flashes a grin and leans in.
“Tell me my dear, why have you come to the Reach?”
How do you respond (in character)? (250 word minimum - please make sure to include at least three references to our lore in your response, with two coming from different pages in the Compendium. Two of the three selected should also be in-depth, avoid simply name-dropping lore terms. Tie the terms into your character's backstory. Why are they important to them?)
Thump. Thump. Thump. Hefty footsteps rippled between the meandering crowd flowing through the crossroads, as a broad-shouldered redhead towered over most of them, stopping right in the middle. He unfurled a map which once sat snugly under his belt, putting his round nose to the paper. A finger passed over the already trodden road.
“Past the Wall… to Albern Crossroad– Oh bother, we haven’t gone the wrong way have we?”
Carrot peered up from his map, his attention grabbed by the kindly crone. “Well.. s’a bit of a funny story really, miss. I would say it's just a bit of sightseein’, get a good look at the world while I’m still young and all that- me mums told me that, y’see.”
The greatling put a finger to his fiery mutton chops on his jawline, giving it a pondering scratch. “But there is this other little thing…” As Carrot peered up the greet the sun on his face, his pupils sharpened as the light hit them. “A few nights back I saw this… star fly by– the prettiest star I ever did see, I tell ya. Stars tell you something about your life, where I’m from; tells ya about your future. I felt… looking up at the light soarin’ by… I had to go follow it.”
Carrot looked back down to the old woman. “I had to make a detour through the midlands though… Was quite lovely to visit Valkia actually. Very nice people. All that um.. How should I say.. chivalry and bravado and such, bwa-ha-ha! Met a lovely little chap on me way out of there, actually. He’s right–” He turned for his companion, only to recognize no-one within the sea of faces. “Oh bother. Lost ‘im again.” Carrot bowed his head to the woman, his hair flopping forward a little as he did. “Lovely meetin’ madame, really was. But I gotta go find me li’l friend.” Turning on his heels, all the old lady could see was Carrot's armored back bumble through the crowd, as his hushed voice mumbled. "Siggy..! Where'd ya run off to?"

Character Name: Carrot, son of Gudrid and Luta
Character Race: Stonerunner Greatling
Character Age: 33
Brief Physical Description: A greatling with a body as broad as a barn. Carrot’s defining feature, aside from his stature, is his bright orange hair, fashioned into a combo of a slicked back hairdo, mustache and mutton chops, and a distinctive stray curl at the front. His outfit is a mismatch of patchwork and colorful clothing, inspired by the clothing of his friend Sigurd. This includes a purple and black checkered pants which goes down to the knee (with additional leather protection), white tights for the calfs and black commoners shoes, and a red and blue checkered doublet with patchwork sleeves in various colors. Over the cloth he wears a slightly worse-for-wear cuirass and a partially discolored chainmail coif over that, and metal gloveless braces that expose his big hands. And to top it all off a big belt with a (minimally tarnished) gold beltbuckle around the waist of his chestplate.
