[Guild] Wayfarers of the Southern Reach
Started by BmZuzu

The Wayfarers of the Southern Reach are a newly formed fellowship of scouts, rangers, Hunters and woodspeople who have bound themselves by a simple creed to explore the untamed stretch of the Reach and to discover what it is that we really have inherited.

“I walk where paths narrow. I watch where no light reaches. I take only what can be spared,
And I leave only what the wild can bear.”
- the Wayfarer's oath.

Organization

The Hearth Circle is the informal leadership body of the Wayfarers. It is open to all members of the fellowship regardless of age, origin or experience. It is convened whenever a decision must be made that affects the fellowship as a whole. There is no table, no high seats. Just flat stones, tree trunks and a fire. All voices are heard, None are obeyed, but always respected.

‘The Circle is wherever we make fire and speak as equals.’

The Hearth Steward
Not a commander, but a caretaker. The needs and facilities of the Fellowship are their responsibility and when necessary they act as the representative figurehead for the fellowship as a whole.

Wayfarer

Those who travels the wilds with purpose and care. They're trained to read the land, track movement, hunt responsibly, and guide others through dangerous or unfamiliar terrain. Often ready to lend their skills where needed, but never wasteful with time, words, or resources. They leave little behind, take only what’s needed, and move on when the work is done.

Recruitment

More often than not, it’s a Wayfarer who finds you first - someone who sees steady hands, sharp eyes, or the right kind of quiet in another. But you don’t have to wait on that. Anyone with a good head, a willing back, and a mind to learn the work is free to step up. There’s no oath till you’ve earned it, and no shame in walking away.

What it means to be a Wayfarer:

Spoiler
A Wayfarer is:
  • A tracker, able to read soil, snow, leaves and bark
  • A hunter, skilled not just in the kill, but in the ethical use of every part of the animal.
  • A guide, trusted to lead others through terrain too vast, too wild, or too unknown.
  • A caretaker of trails, who cuts no more than they must and leaves little behind.
  • A Watcher who can sit silent for days, observing beasts or storms or border movements.
  • A teacher to those who will listen.

Core Values of a Wayfarer:

Spoiler
  1. Self-Sufficiency
A Wayfarer should survive alone if need be - without magic, without support.

  2. Stewardship over Conquest
The wilds are not to be “tamed,” but understood and navigated. Wayfarers don’t seek to dominate nature, only to coexist intelligently with it.

  3. Pragmatism
If a tool works, use it. If something’s broken, fix it. If it's dying, end it cleanly.

  4. Discipline and Patience
Tracking takes time. Hunting takes restraint. Observation means stillness. A Wayfarer is unhurried when possible, deliberate when not.

  5. Low Glory, High Purpose
They do not seek recognition. The best days are when no one even knows they were there.

[Guild Hall Build and Interior, Complete!]

 The Thorns and Thistle

The Thorn and Thistle stands in the Valley of Flowers. Built by capable woodsmen and carpenters, it rose beam by beam over the Vernal season, each plank carried, cut, and set by those who would later sit at its hearth.

Some say the valley earned its name for the wild blooms in Vernus and Summer, a canvas of color swaying in the wind. But it was the thickets of thorny vines and hardy mountain thistle along the valley’s edge that gave the inn its name - plants that root deep, cling hard, and refuse to be driven out. For the Wayfarers, the name became a symbol: resilient against hardship, and sharp enough to guard what matters.

The Thorn and Thistle was built for two reasons: to keep the Wayfarers close to the wilds, and to give the weary a place to rest before or after the long trail.

Inside you’ll find:

  • A dry roof and warm fire.

  • Bread, stew, and whatever the valley’s given that day.

  • Rooms for the night, or floor space if the rooms are full.

  • Safe company and straight answers about the road ahead.
