In-Character
Read the following prompt:
The rhythmic lull of hoofbeats are a marching drum to the small group of pioneers and variety of folk you have found yourself amongst, packed into a wobbling wagon. The rolling plains of the Southern Reach and a clear sky stretch out all around you, the buzz of excited chatter a dull wash in your ears as your mind strays to your former life and what has led you here to new lands.
“Nervous?”
You blink, returning to the present moment. A kindly older woman sat near you is smiling warmly with a crinkle to her eyes.
“I can tell it’s your first time. Still remember mine,” she flashes a grin and leans in.
“Tell me my dear, why have you come to the Reach?”
How do you respond (in character)? (150 words minimum)
Leokas blinked hard at the woman, then cast a long look around. He wasn't certain how much time had passed since he last took in the land surrounding the caravan, having become mesmerized by the hypnotic beat of horse hooves.
"Followin' the tall tales, least that's what I like to tell myself," replied Leokas, sharing a small smile with the elder. "An old friend o' mine from up near Tamohn north shared century old stories of the Great Disappearance, what all they'd left behind." A short pause as Leokas hummed in thought. His hand drifted down to the pack laying at his feet, thumbing at the pommel of the short sword protruding from the burlap as if it gave him some measure of comfort.
"Well.. suppose I couldn't pass on the opportunity to finally head on down. Never thought much about headin' west of Frostpeak - spent three decades there." The woman snorted, and Leokas frowned slightly.
"You'll grow to love the trek more each time, young one." Leokas' frown faded, replaced with a more inquisitive look. "Don't forget your roots, even if you're writing a new chapter in life."
