Read the following prompt:
The rhythmic lull of hoofbeats are a marching drum to the small group of pioneers and variety of folk you have found yourself amongst, packed into a wobbling wagon. The rolling plains of the Southern Reach and a clear sky stretch out all around you, the buzz of excited chatter a dull wash in your ears as your mind strays to your former life and what has led you here to new lands.
“Nervous?”
You blink, returning to the present moment. A kindly older woman sat near you is smiling warmly with a crinkle to her eyes.
“I can tell it’s your first time. Still remember mine,” she flashes a grin and leans in.
“Tell me my dear, why have you come to the Reach?”

"Hngh," she shudders, drawing her coat in a bit. "Little b-business of yours, mind you, but s'pose there's little h-harm in t-telling." The woman huffs, stuttering a little, though not out of anxiety. More a sort of anticipation, almost manic in its intensity. She squares her shoulders and places a hand on her chest, giving the older woman what may charitably be described as a smile.
"Vanessa Davis, aspiring s-scholar. Family used to be J-Jacks, 'fore we moved further N-North, away from t-the others. Live in t-the swamps, marshes, or 'least we used t-to. P-pappy k-kept us a bit isolated, though. Real c-control freak, pappy was. Never got t-to really interact with anyone growing up. It was c-constricting, agonizing!" She grows more animated, the young woman gesturing, though keeping her arms pulled in just enough to avoid hitting anyone near her. "Pah! Pah, I say! I c-could've learned more from others! But nooooo, they're t-too d-different, pappy said, and see, nobody in the family argues with pappy! S-so I left. Pah. I know how t' live in t-the wilds, I was raised to! S-sure, the South's different, different p-plants- ah, flora! Yes, yes, flora. Flora and fauna."
Vanessa leans back, relaxing a little, giving the older woman a wide smile. "There's s-so much to find out, here in the South. A whole population of elves d-don't j-just up and vanish, see, a-and I've heard a lot! G-gonna try t-to find some ruins, ancient knowledge, books, cookery, magic! Anything, everything!" Like a switch was flipped, she's back to a ball of energy, practically springing to her feet, only stopped by the fact the wagon is still moving. "I want t-to find it all! T-to learn! That's why I'm here, s-see? G-gotta learn, gotta do s-something! G-gotta prove it t' pappy t-that it was worth it. Worth the s-shame of leaving them b-behind. You get it, right?!"
Noticing others staring at her now, her face flushes. She sits back down, sheepishly, before focusing on the older woman again with that same intensity. "L-lotta stuff here, in the South. A-and as an aspiring scholar, of the highest order! It's m-my duty, my aspiration to find them all! E-even if that means... a less than stellar climate. I'll h-have to get used to it again, I s'pose. Pah. I'm a Jack, how hard c-could it be? I'll f-find new pact-mates, w-who won't hold me back, and find out all there is to know in this world! That's w-why I'm here! It's a good enough reason, r-right?"
