Upcoming [Eventline] Embers scattered from distant lands.
Started by BmZuzu

The following is an eventline that will be primarily centered around a player character but not exclusive to them.
It will follow themes and tropes of Power, Political Maneuvering and Legitimacy vs Belonging.

Current and Primary DM: BmZuzu

Prelude: Letter I

[!] Delivered by private courier a week after their return. The seal is correct. [!]

[!] Written in the letters of the ancient tongue, it reads:

To .. ..

Word has spread sooner than we hoped. You are known to have returned bearing much more than just yourself. The cracks in what we hoped to hide are impossible to fill now. Some names I expect you already know. Others, more troubling have also taken ear.

Be wary. The families are uneasy, desperate almost. Clan Moon stirs. And war is spoken more openly. Should summons be called, the family bears no true head to raise an answer.

Those of the true blood have completely withdrawn from the light as discussed. They cannot be reached now, and for now, they cannot protect you. Eyes may yet follow you, ones that do not belong in that faraway land.

For your safety, and for the stability of what remains, you should not travel openly, nor trust summons that do not bear proper witness. Await further instruction. We will make arrangements to bring you somewhere quieter, where matters may be discussed without interruption.

More will follow when it is safe.

-- In service of your House,
Those who still stand watch

Prelude: Letter II

[!] Arrived three nights after the first. No seal this time, only a special knot known to the family, binding the letter

[!] Written in the Ancient tongue, it reads:

  To ...
Burn it when read.

We have names, or enough of them to matter.

The danger does not come from a single hand, but from all who see advantage, and opportunity in you.

First among them are the Crescent Unbound, a faction within the branches who profit from chaos and fear the return of a settled head. They speak of loyalty, but have armed retainers beyond their allowance and have begun moving coin through intermediaries that may have ties to eastern hands.

Second are agents answering to the outer captains. The affiliated traders of the Mist Isles. They have been seen questioning porters, bribing officials, and other less tasteful things.

Lastly, there are those who answer to no banner. Contracted hands. They are being paid to take, not to kill. This should tell you something of your value.

We know they know you carry a piece, though not which one, nor how it is kept. They also know correctly that you stand outside the blood. That makes you more vulnerable.

Those of true blood remain hidden, as we warned. To present yourself now, or to attempt elevation, would draw every eye named above.

If approached by:

  • Unknown Messengers invoking urgency
  • Escorts offering protection without due charter
  • Kin who insist you must move immediately

You should assume they do not act in your interest.

Trust only word carried by us, or by signs you already know.

We are arranging a route away from the Spire. When it is ready, you will be told where to go and who will meet you.

Until then,
Remain unseen.
Remain silent.
Remain alive.

-- Those entrusted with your House’s care
For as long as we are able

Prelude: Letter III

[!] Arrived a fortnight after the second. No seal again time, only the family Knot.

[!] Written in the Ancient tongue, it reads:

This will likely be the last letter we risk sending by courier.

Tensions have risen beyond what quiet measures can hold. The branches sway restlessly, and with the talk of war growing louder, patience has thinned on all sides.

We have therefore secured aid that can move openly, without inviting suspicion.

A bannered party will soon arrive at the Spire - one bearing colors that has remained loyal to the True Blood, even through this uncertainty. Their name should be known to you. Their presence will raise no alarm; indeed, it will be taken as reassurance by those watching.

They come not as hunters, but as custodians, to see you escorted somewhere more defensible until matters resolve. This is not exile, nor concealment, but protection.

You should receive them.

Do not delay them with questions better asked later. Do not refuse their hospitality. Bring only what is necessary, and keep the piece secured as you have been taught. They have not been told its nature, only that you must be safeguarded.

Once you are under their banners, further arrangements can be made without fear of interception.

This is the safest path left to us.

-- By the Authority of your House,
And those who still answer to it.
