The rhythmic lull of hoofbeats are a marching drum to the small group of pioneers and variety of folk you have found yourself amongst, packed into a wobbling wagon. The rolling plains of the Southern Reach and a clear sky stretch out all around you, the buzz of excited chatter a dull wash in your ears as your mind strays to your former life and what has led you here to new lands.
“Nervous?”
You blink, returning to the present moment. A kindly older woman sat near you is smiling warmly with a crinkle to her eyes.
“I can tell it’s your first time. Still remember mine,” she flashes a grin and leans in.
“Tell me my dear, why have you come to the Reach?”

“Oh, hi, hello there! (he shoots up straight, trying to compose himself after falling half-asleep during this extraordinarily long cart ride) Yes I am quite new, I’m from further west in Ko’ram, Sharuul specifically. (he glances down over his own body, suddenly growing embarrassed at his state of being, both the ephemeral and more permanent parts of him) I know my appearance is a bit odd, but it’s quite explainable. My mother was actually a Greatling Stonerunner, while my father was a Arsa Sidhe of Korami background. It’s a funny story actually, both of my parents were actually apostates to their culture! (Awkwardly loud laugh) Mhm, yes, I suppose it sounds more dire than funny, maybe I should explain. My mother was the eldest daughter of her family, Both a fighter and athlete of great skill, she was almost certainly going to be chosen as the next head of the family once her mother died. But, she yearned for more, not just to travel with her family, but to be free from the responsibility of it all. So, she left it all behind, setting out on a journey of adventure and freedom. (As he starts to tell this story his body language relaxes significantly, still up and alert, but seemingly at ease now that he’s engaging in something he’s confident in) My father was similar to my mother in my ways. He was a member of minor clan under Clan Odokhi, a master of both crafting and wielding blades. (He, a bit awkwardly, swings his hands around to mimic the motions of hammering an anvil and swinging a blade) I was told he also had a similar wistfulness as my mother, though unlike her he stayed at his post and did the job expected of him, at least until he met my mother. They apparently learned each other's skills before even their names, as upon meeting they fought, thinking the other a raider or bandit of some sort. They eventually calmed, and they say their love bloomed from there. (A small smile crawls across his face as he says those last few words) Though if I’m being honest, I suspected they removed the, ahem, more ‘fiery’ parts of the story to make it more child friendly. (He realizes how uncouth mentioning that may have been, clearing his throat and shuffling around somewhat in his seat) But anyways, they were in love. And to prove his love and commitment my father committed what was arguably the greater sin between the two, melting down his familial blade and turning them into wedding rings for him and her.
From there they eloped, abandoning all ties and responsibilities from their former life and settling as farmers in Sharuul and having, well, me! (Half-heartedly throws out his arms to above him as if to emphasize what he is saying, but upon seeing the odd glances of the other passengers, quickly pulls them back in) Now you may think because of my parents martial acumen, I would possess similar skills. That would be, well, an incorrect assumption, I’m quite poor with a blade (He laughs awkwardly, slouching in his seat somewhat). Well, a traditional one at least. Regardless of that, I’ve found my dexterity is better suited to writing and other similar tasks anyways. (There seems to be a tone of disappointment in his tone, seemingly directed at himself) Though I do enjoy sporting events, both participating and watching! (He perks up somewhat, sitting straighter than before) We even had our own little version of the Under-Star Games on the farm, though I never did particularly well. Yet I always seemed to win, and the star readings my mother gave me after always seemed to be incredibly lucky (he chuckles softly, a longing look in his eyes). Now I do realize, that doesn’t really explain why I’m out here, does it? (his tone drops to a much more serious one, replacing the awkwardness and discomfort of before. He leans in closer to the woman, as if he doesn’t want her to mishear anything he has to say) Well, about a decade ago, in quite an unlucky manner, both of my parent’s pasts caught up with them. A clan working under Odohki came to exact penance on my father for abandoning his post. Coincidentally at the same time, a portion of my mothers family now led by her younger brother (starts to talk under his breath, his head turning away slightly from the woman) Which I always found odd, she had other sisters, he really shouldn’t have ended up as head… (trails off into thought, before snapping back both physically and mentally) Sorry about that, anyways, they also came punish her for abandoning her clan. (He clears his throat again, the conversation getting to him somewhat) As luck would have it, both groups were too prideful to band together, and fought each other for the right to punish both once they learned of my parent’s coupling. I escaped the scuffle relatively unscathed, physically at least. (He says, giving a half-hearted shrug and smile) My parents told a neighbor to escape with me, while they held back the two groups. I like to tell myself that if any two individuals could fight back dozens of opponents, it’s them! (Lets out a loud chuckle that quickly trails into a sigh). I haven’t seen them since, and I’ve spent most of my time traveling. (He slumps back against the cart wall) Yes, I suppose that all sounds very morose. And I’m realizing I’ve dumped my entire life story on you without even telling you my name! (He shoots back up once again, his tone switching from a somber to jovial one in a fashion that makes it clear the newfound happiness on display is not very sincere)
My name is Gideon Gibraltar, I am thirty-two years of age, I was born under the sign of the lantern, and I do apologize for all that (He awkwardly laughs, extending his hand to shake hers). Perhaps I should move on to better things to talk about. I'm a scholar by trade and an aspiring wizard, as I have quite the knack for research and hopefully the arcane as well, and have found it to suit my subpar physical strength but hardy constitution quite well. (He says all this while gesturing over his body, trying to emphasize that his incredibly large stature doesn’t give him all that much strength) I've traveled quite a bit, visiting historical sites and trying to discern more of the stories at each of them. I actually visited Sanguifleur recently and conversed with quite a few scholars and had the pleasure of combing through some almost forgotten tomes. (His tone and body language switch again, becoming similar to how it was earlier when he had first begun to tell the story of his parents) In fact it was fascinating as many of the works,when taken together, seem to imply that the seeds of revolution were planted as far back as Charles IV, based on…(He halts himself mid-sentence, covering his face with one of his hands before slowly retracting it) I realize that this is not as interesting to everyone else as it is to me,I apologize (clears throat).
Anyways,I've taken to the habit of tattooing myself, or requesting others to in the harder to reach places, historical moments and text of note I've come across,as well as arcane information I've come across in that time that I hope to eventually learn how to use! (he trails his fingers over the arm parallel to it, feeling across the tattoo-work on his own body) The burn was an unfortunate accident, where I thought that if I had the right reagents and preparation, I could cast spells without a patron…(He trails off one again as his thoughts overwhelm him, touching his facial scar briefly, but he quickly snaps back) but I’ve learned! Anyways, why I'm here! (He straightens up his body like he has previous times before during this ride) Like any scholar worth their salt, I've come to The Reach to research the ever elusive and mysterious Aedall and the mass disappearance that followed. (He moves his hands and wiggles his finger in an odd gesture, seemingly to try and emphasize the mysteriousness of the topic) Now I don't think I'll discover the entire truth, but I do have some promising leads, I've been conferring with a man of walljack origins who claims to have ancestors who were apart of the original patrols that first discovered the empty Aedall villages, and do so hope he's telling the truth. (He rubs his right arm a bit, it seems to be both a gesture of worry and hopefulness) Now then, uh, I suppose I should probably ask you your story because I make more of a rambling fool of myself.” (From there he continues to sit straight and proper for the rest of the ride as he listens to the woman’s story. He’s attentively taking in everything she has to say, a happy look crossing his face as he both genuinely enjoys what she has to say, as well as this giving him a chance to look away from his own personal issues, at least for a moment)

Character Age: 32
Brief Physical Description: A tall and lanky man with pale rough skin, and a pair of bright yellow-gold eyes. His head is a thick and matted mess of long brownish-red hair, with a large beard in a similar state. Long elven ears poke out from this mess, with a golden stud in each lobe. He sports a long and somewhat bulbous nose, his face generally having a dour shape and look to it despite his generally happy demeanor. He possesses a small pair of tan horns, but they're entirely obscured by his mess of hair. Across his body is a series of tattoos of arcane and historical information interwoven with black-work lines, going around the entirely of his. His face was tattooed at one point as well, but a large rectangular burn swept diagonally across his face has left but little traces of the ink-work once there. His clothing is a similar mess to his body, wearing well-worn brown leather boots accompanied by long, loose, and faded crimson pants. The trousers are covered in patches and stitches from both damage and adjustments to their length. They’re held up by a tight leather belt, banded to which is an arcane grimoire, along with an assortment of small satchels and glass vials. His chest is bare, a black and purple cloak over his shoulder the only thing giving him coverage.
