In-Character

[Read the following prompt:

The rhythmic lull of hoofbeats are a marching drum to the small group of pioneers and variety of folk you have found yourself amongst, packed into a wobbling wagon. The rolling plains of the Southern Reach and a clear sky stretch out all around you, the buzz of excited chatter a dull wash in your ears as your mind strays to your former life and what has led you here to new lands.

“Nervous?”

You blink, returning to the present moment. A kindly older woman sat near you is smiling warmly with a crinkle to her eyes.

“I can tell it’s your first time. Still remember mine,” she flashes a grin and leans in.

“Tell me my dear, why have you come to the Reach?”]

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hearing the woman, it rumbled it’s head upwards, stone grinding against stone as it met her gaze. The Large golem hadn’t expected questions. It wasn’t even sure it was being addressed.

Her smile persisted as she laid a hand on it’s rough hewn arm, “It's alright, dear. Take yer time.”

It sat up a bit straighter. So she was talking to it. Why had it come to the reach?

An odd thing, to ask a golem why it does something. Golems are preprogrammed magic, designed to carry out any task it was given. Why? Because it was told to. It was told to do so by...It had forgotten.

It knew it had forgotten, but had briefly- forgotten. It had been told to forget. It didn’t know why it had been told to forget, but it had forgotten because it had been told to do so. It had been told to...Go. To Live. To be, to travel, to do. And it had been told to forget it’s master. It was sad. It forgot why it was sad, but it knew that thinking of it’s master made it sad. It couldn't even remember it's master. What was the point in being sad over something it couldn’t remember?

What business did a Golem have feeling sad? What business did a Golem have feeling anything?

What business did It have in the Reach? It was a place where it could Go. It was a place where it could travel to, coming from the Faded Steppe. It hadn’t forgotten the Stonerunners, it remembered them. It had dealt with them often in the past for some reason. When the Stonerunners saw it without it’s master, they shared their condolences. It had thanked them silently, but it did not know why.

It also remembered the Fey-Magic that it’s life had stemmed from. It was...grateful? It supposed it wouldn't have been ungrateful if it were still just a pile of rocks, but being sentient made one responsible for these things.

It was responsible now, too. Not that it was necessarily “Responsible” in the virtuous sense, but responsibility had fallen to it. Had been commanded unto it.

It pulled out a slate of rock from it's side, and pressed a chalky finger to it. After writing, it showed the woman the only correct response it had. “To Live.”

Character Name: None, yet! Perhaps it will earn a few Nicknames...

Character Race: Tuff Golem (Fey-Touched Rocks, resembling a Greatling)

Character Age: uhhhhhhh, It can’t remember. At least this many (holds up an indeterminate number of fingers, two hands worth)

Brief Physical Description: Generic Greatling, but made of stone. Cobbled together, not carved. Loose rock amalgamated and packed together into sentience.

Image of Skin and Figura Model: (What's a Figura Model, do I need one?)

As this character concept is inadmissible with Avalore's current lore and limitations around playable races, I'm denying the application after correspondence with the applicant.

Denied applications are not blacklists, and a new application can be submitted at any time.
