Fireglow Dragonfly

Fireglow dragonflies can be found in bogs and marshes, and by lakes or other freshwater sources. They are rather large, with their wings spanning a chest’s length. Although their size can be intimidating, these dragonflies are harmless and do not possess mandibles strong enough to break skin, although they will bite if they feel threatened. This bite will hurt the same as a pinch, but will not draw blood.

The most significant feature of fireglow dragonflies are their abdomens, which are transparent and possess the biochemical reaction necessary for bioluminescence. To attract mates, male fireglow dragonflies light up their abdomens and flash between colors of red, yellow and orange. This glow leaves a long trail behind when the fireglow dragonflies move, creating a one-of-a-kind natural light display.
