Wailing Beetle

Wailing beetles can be found all across the realm, but have two distinct variations. Eastern wailing beetles are much larger than western wailing beetles. Both variations are a muted green color with two small, front-facing antennae. Their size difference contributes to their unique mating calls. In the warmer months, these beetles will emit a call that sounds very similar to a  crying person. The smaller, western wailing beetles sound more akin to crying children, while the larger, eastern wailing beetles have a much deeper cry that people often describe as eerie.

While often considered pests and exterminated from cities and other populated areas, some people do own and crossbreed wailing beetles to create variations that emit different pitches. These domesticated variations are usually kept for their novelty and do not have any practical uses.
