In-Character
Read the following prompt:
The rhythmic lull of hoofbeats are a marching drum to the small group of pioneers and variety of folk you have found yourself amongst, packed into a wobbling wagon. The rolling plains of the Southern Reach and a clear sky stretch out all around you, the buzz of excited chatter a dull wash in your ears as your mind strays to your former life and what has led you here to new lands.
“Nervous?”
You blink, returning to the present moment. A kindly older woman sat near you is smiling warmly with a crinkle to her eyes.
“I can tell it’s your first time. Still remember mine,” she flashes a grin and leans in.
“Tell me my dear, why have you come to the Reach?”
How do you respond (in character)? (250 word minimum - please make sure to include at least three references to our lore in your response, with two coming from different pages in the Compendium. Two of the three selected should also be in-depth, avoid simply name-dropping lore terms. Tie the terms into your character's backstory. Why are they important to them?)

Hot and overwhelmed by the proximity and constant chatter of her companions the wind was a welcome reprieve. If today wasn't slowly becoming more and more overcast, she might of just melted, best her mind drift elsewhere. As the woman spoke her attention didn't immediately redirect itself. Thumbing the ridges of her knuckles she let the question hang in the air and be taken by the wind. Looking down at the woman, she spoke in a hushed tone through yellowish tusks, "It's obvious?"
Taking a moment to adjust her position, the seat in the wagon creaked under her weight. If she could have walked, she would have. Surely the other passengers were irritated by the amount of space she was occupying. Attempting to lighten the mood, she joked "Change in altitude" before looking up at the storm clouds gathering. Her voice lowered to a whisper, "it was fate, actually", she usually wasn't one to discuss things of this nature. Especially with those she had just met but, this woman was the first person who'd talked to her since....
Perhaps she was as naive as the matriarch described, for she saw no harm in explaining. Redirecting her eyes she looked at the woman; "I visited Notthof after the passing of my mother-". Taking in a breath and pausing she subconsciously grasped the bone handle of her sword. Her heart twisted awkwardly in her chest as the memory of that field rose to the forefront of her mind. Releasing a large breath she continued- "the Diviners told me upon my arrival an archway hung in the sky."
Would this woman understand what that meant of would she have to explain. Best to be polite and explain, this wasn't the Amafells. "You could say it means I'm destined for a change of scenery and the Reach seems like an accessible start given its.. proximity". Was it cowardly to seek a change of scenery so close to home? Surely travelling to the Swallow-Sun Mountains would not lighten her grief more than the Reach could. Perhaps nowhere could.
Head raising back to the sky, a sad smile graced her face. "For someone born under the Lantern sky, my ideas of what that exactly means is as clear as today". As if the clouds themselves had ears, rain started to spatter the pavement, the wagon and the passenger. The rain ran hot and salted down her face.
Well, maybe it wasn't all rain...

Character Name: Scarlet
Character Race: Greatling
Character Age: 26
Brief Physical Description: Born with albinism her shaking purple gaze, thin white hair and lashes might be alluring if her expression wasn't so stern all the time. Pointed yellowish horns break through strands of white, their hue a shade lighter than her protruding tusks, although to discern that, you'd have to get quite close. Paired with her towering height of 7 ft, heavier frame and muscles fit for a warrior, she's an odd and intimidating combination of attributes.
