Glass Salamander

Much like their name suggests, glass salamanders are entirely translucent, their pale innards visible upon close inspection through their skin. They are slimy to the touch, always covered with a similarly transparent secreted coating. This unique form of camouflage allows them to traverse their native swamps and wetlands with ease, as any movement looks much like the rippling of water. They are fairly small creatures, no bigger than the size of a palm, though their tails are rather thick. Their bulbous eyes have pupils that are milky and pale, making them sensitive to light. Because of this they prefer dimly lit areas, and can often be found in secluded, underwater caverns.

Glass salamanders are typically just an interesting sight, but some cultures believe them to carry prophetic abilities. Small groups of glass salamanders have been said to gather around an area shortly before large, pivotal events take place, even traversing significant distances, far from their native habitats, to reach these sites. Most often these are places of future natural disasters, but on occasion these migrations are linked to misfortunes among communities, too. Any natural reason for these pilgrimages is unknown to this day.

Some have also reported strange visions related to the future when handling these salamanders with bare skin. These visions are often vague and the accuracy questionable, leaving the would-be prophet disoriented afterwards. Even still, stories have spread across the lands of looking into the eyes of a glass salamander to view the future, often in an attempt to predict horrible events.
