In-Character
Read the following prompt:
The rhythmic lull of hoofbeats are a marching drum to the small group of pioneers and variety of folk you have found yourself amongst, packed into a wobbling wagon. The rolling plains of the Southern Reach and a clear sky stretch out all around you, the buzz of excited chatter a dull wash in your ears as your mind strays to your former life and what has led you here to new lands.
“Nervous?”
You blink, returning to the present moment. A kindly older woman sat near you is smiling warmly with a crinkle to her eyes.
“I can tell it’s your first time. Still remember mine,” she flashes a grin and leans in.
“Tell me my dear, why have you come to the Reach?”
How do you respond (in character)? (250 word minimum - please make sure to include at least three references to our lore in your response, with two coming from different pages in the Compendium. Two of the three selected should also be in-depth, avoid simply name-dropping lore terms. Tie the terms into your character's backstory. Why are they important to them?)

If he closes his eyes, the rhythmic sway is almost the roiling of the sea, with the batter of salt-breath smarting his nose. He could feel the coarse rope between his hands, the burn of exertion in his limbs and the heave-ho call of the boatswain as the sails were hauled up. The water splits as the cow-eyed dugongs bob just below the surface, fins cutting through the water as if in a wave goodbye. It warms his heart; perhaps a sign from the Siren Serene that his choice of coming of age had been the right one. He breathes in, deep. The air is not the same, but that metal-tang scent of the cold still lingers.
“Hm?” His eyes flutter open as the kind old woman addresses him, head tilting one way as he mirrors her movements. He leans in as well, hunching down just a bit with a sheepish smile.
“A bit,” he admits, hand reaching up to loop around the small charm that hangs around his neck. A dark horse hangs by its halter— representing the Pale Steed’s counterpart, the guardian of the late-bloomed. His accent is lilting and strange, not unlike the waves of the wine-dark sea, “I was raised in Pearl Coast. I’ve not been so far from the ocean in my life; it’s strange.”
He chuckles, then, revealing a gap-toothed grin and rounded cheeks, “a wise-soul guides my first foray. What luck. The tales you hold, I wish to know-- though, I suppose, my turn goes first.”
He hums. He starts low, then pitches up, as if to prepare for a song. He doesn’t end up singing, though, but it’s a close thing, “in the Mistan Isles there is a rite. To reach the island’s peak or sail afar; all this to earn a name. Many choose to climb where the world’s defanged. I choose to leave.”
Too late, his peers would say, chuckles hidden behind their calloused hands. He’s lived without his quested-name for years longer than propriety dictates. However, he has a reason— some may blame it on the fell-star he was born under, but it isn’t anything as fickle as fate. No…
“My father was a man of much repute. A Knight of Nautical. His quested-name is hard to beat— but a challenge I rise to meet,” no matter how far it takes him. Though the land makes him nervous, he’s more than sure the stories and feats he’d bring back would show those brutish peers of his how much of a good decision this had been. After all, the Southern Reach is a land steeped in opportunity after the Great Disappearance. Surely he could find something that would rival the works of a wandering Knight Nautical. Maybe, he could be a sort of knight as well...
“So therein lies my reasoning,” he concludes, regardless, letting out a small sigh as he leans back against the wagon’s seat. His heart thrums with possibility as the land sprawls out around them, rolling with the fields of wheat, “a young man’s journey to leave his father’s shadow. I lay this tale to rest.”
“Now then,” a clap, and his dark eyes shine, alight with a sharpened curiosity, “you mention the road’s an old friend. How come? How far have you travelled? What sights have graced your eyes? Tell all. I am here to listen.”

Character Name: Ralomir
Character Race: Human
Character Age: 21
Brief Physical Description: A young Mistan male with moon-pale hair and flint-sharp eyes. His skin is relatively pale, despite living by the coasts, as most sunlight had been obscured by the heavy mists of his homeland. He stands at a rather average height of 5’6, with a stocky build that speaks of some sailing experience. He covers himself in long sleeves and hardy clothes to battle off the cold winds of the seas, and sports a pair of crude goggles to protect his eyes from the sea when swimming. Half of his face is usually obscured behind a red kerchief. Beneath it lies an oft-charmed smile, with a gap between the front two teeth and an unpaired dimple.
