In-Character

Read the following prompt:

The rhythmic lull of hoofbeats are a marching drum to the small group of pioneers and variety of folk you have found yourself amongst, packed into a wobbling wagon. The rolling plains of the Southern Reach and a clear sky stretch out all around you, the buzz of excited chatter a dull wash in your ears as your mind strays to your former life and what has led you here to new lands.

“Nervous?”

You blink, returning to the present moment. A kindly older woman sat near you is smiling warmly with a crinkle to her eyes.

“I can tell it’s your first time. Still remember mine,” she flashes a grin and leans in.

“Tell me my dear, why have you come to the Reach?”

How do you respond (in character)(250 word minimum - please make sure to include at least three references to our lore in your response, with two coming from different pages in the Compendium.  Two of the three selected should also be in-depth, avoid simply name-dropping lore terms. Tie the terms into your character's backstory. Why are they important to them?)

“Hmm? Oh, well... uhm..." The young man paused for a moment, thumbs twiddling as he gathered his thoughts.

"... I suppose it began when my master took an arrow in the eye? I was a carpenter's apprentice, you see. Up in Rulan. But about a year ago, we were sent to The North on campaign. It wasn't just us, mind you. Quite a few masons, carpenters, and other sorts of craftsmen were called up to help with a siege, and my word... if you could only see the size of that castle..."

His eyes seemed to widen in awe at the recollection, his hands moving about to emphasize the grandiosity of the northerner's stronghold. "... I think even we could learn a thing or two about fortifications from the northern kingdoms! Still, I didn't mind the work. Building trebuchets and setting supports for the tunnels kept me nice and warm in the cold. Didn't quite help during bedtime, however. If only we had been sent to fight one of the neighbours, what with all the nobles squabbling about every little thing, sleep would have come more easily. But alas, I suppose the Red Fists wouldn't have let that happen..."

The young man paused once more, his eyes brightening as he caught himself in the midst of rambling. "Ah, the question! Yes, well, I was quite inspired, you see. Siege and battle are such messy affairs, yet there's something about the grit and determination of the warrior spirit that just..." His words trailed away, and the man began to nod to himself. "... I wanted to be like that. Like them. I wanted to be strong and to fight, and perhaps put what I learned with construction and destruction to good use."

He let out a sigh, and with a gentle smile, reclined in his seat. "With the war ended and my master dead, I suppose I could return to Katrinsa to start my own carpentry shop. I could try, but... I don't think that's quite what I want to do anymore. I want to try being a soldier. But do I really want to wait around till the next time they send us back up to The North...?"

The young man shook his head. "And besides, even if i did waste all that time waiting to see real action, I don't want to travel too far from home again. That's why I decided to come here, to the Southern Reach. It's close enough for me to send regular letters to my family, and, from what I've heard, the land has its fair share of beasts and bandits to tackle. Not to mention, it is quite the intriguing place! The Aedall..."

The young man hummed, his fingers interlacing together as he seemed to ponder a thought. "... How'd they just... vanish? Could it have been the work of some manner of sorcery...?" He seemed to shiver at the thought of the arcane. "If it were internal strife, there should have been some evidence of fighting, no? Skeletons on a battlefield, ruined settlements... signs of that sort. But nothing? Nothing at all? Perhaps they found a better place over the sea, and chose to make a new home for themselves elsewhere. But if that were the case, there should have been some who chose to stay behind. Or maybe... this is the work of demons..."

He gulped, but even within that apprehension at the unknown, his eyes glimmered with hints of curiosity. "...I'm sure there are many scholars already at work, trying to uncover the truth behind it all, but nevertheless, it would be quite exciting to help uncover such a grand mystery!"

Character Name: Sieg Scheitelhau

Character Race: Human

Character Age: 18

Brief Physical Description: Human. Male. Wants to be a Fighter. A young man of decent stature, with skin tanned from work in the sun, and a strong frame from years of artisanal labour. A wreath of cloth helps to keep his black locks away from his viridian gaze; a useful tool when it came to matters of precise construction, but would also aid in facilitating the intensity of more violent endeavours as well. A cloak that he'd worn since his days as a carpenter's apprentice is draped over a gambeson of much more recent make, with his overall attire hinting at the conscientiousness of style befitting that of a dapper burgher.

Hello! I'm Lumu, and I'll be handling your whitelist! 🐈

Your lore reference regarding the mason guild for Rulan is good with its core motivation, but your other two points regarding the North's war and the disappearances of the Aedall are still rather vague. Possibly elaborating on those instances a little more or tying them further into the character's motivation should work! This is also rather minor, but the lore also implies he was sent specifically by the Duchess- which verges on deciding a specific action from a prominent NPC. If you could change it to be sent to war more generally that would be better!

The description of your character is also rather vague, beyond describing him as a human. If you could detail more (such as his outfit? his hair, skin tone, and other such things?) that would be good!
