The sound of clinking glasses and idle chatter welcome you in as you find yourself stepping into The Full Cask. An older man with a full mustache and warm smile beckons you over to the bar he's tending. His gazes washes over you, a glint of some knowing look shining in his eyes. As you sit, his voice rumbles out:
"Hello there stranger! What can I get for you?"
After you order, he continues to make small talk. "You must be a newcomer. I'm Maarten, glad to meet you." He says with a certain kindness in his tone.
"Tell me, what brings you to the Spire?"

Your Response: Shuffling his belongings to the side, the young Valk thought about his answer carefully. It had been months since he'd first set out from his home with his uncle's merchant company, and a great deal had happened since then. They'd visited a great many places, traded in everything from ore to lumber and spices, each following a meticulously set order of destinations and exchanges his family's patriarch had crafted for them through years of experience and the connections they'd gathered from that. They'd been everywhere from the Walljack Swamps to the North to the Midlands and even the Mist Isles. It was a grand journey that would make even some adventurers envious, and yet, despite all they'd accomplished, all it had taken was a single bout of misfortune to leave the young man stranded in a land far too distant from his home for him to make the journey by himself. He wondered how the knights of his homeland dealt with situations like these. They were formed from a stronger stock than he ever was, after all. Though he supposed such an answer was beyond a mere merchant's purview. After all, it wasn't like he possessed their training or their deeply instilled values of chivalry to guide him.
"Bad luck, I suppose. But that's the life of a merchant. Sometimes you win big, other times you wash up in a foreign land with little more than the clothes on your back."

Brief Physical Description:
A tall, lanky figure with bronze skin, black hair, and piercing golden eyes. He has long, toned arms and a swimmer's frame. His skin is smooth, almost flawless, and would even seem borderline statuesque if not for the prominent scar across the bridge of his nose. Despite being a merchant's son, he seems to prefer to dress in simpler, more practical garments rather than trying to make a show of his wealth, wearing ordinary sailors' garb made from basic linens, leather, and iron. No matter where he goes, he seems to carry a dagger on his person, a largely ceremonial piece inherited from his father.
