Read the following prompt:

The sound of clinking glasses and idle chatter welcome you in as you find yourself stepping into The Full Cask. An older man with a full mustache and warm smile beckons you over to the bar he's tending. His gazes washes over you, a glint of some knowing look shining in his eyes. As you sit, his voice rumbles out:

"Hello there stranger! What can I get for you?" 

After you order, he continues to make small talk. "You must be a newcomer. I'm Maarten, glad to meet you." He says with a certain kindness in his tone. 

"Tell me, what brings you to the Spire?"

How do you respond (in character)? 

Your Response:

"Well..." she started, then fell silent for a moment too long. Rose's gaze was distant, thoughtful. Though she thought about her purpose in life a lot, whenever someone asked she still struggled to answer them. Eventually she closed her eyes and sorted her thoughts properly. Distant images of familiar faces echoed in her mind and lingered with bittersweet whispers of affection and dedication. She wondered how to feel - as she had many lonely nights before.

"I'm originally Mistan- born in Sirensong. Although we didn't live in the main city for long, my dear mother often brought me along to watch the merchant ships and help her scrub her own. She was always at sea when I was little, bringing me back trinkets and treasures, writing letters of her adventures. Only her letters stopped quite suddenly in recent years, it's already been 5 years since she set out... In her last letter - a little over a year ago - she talked about the Spire. How many wondrous experiences she had, the kindness of the people she met." she spoke quietly, her voice a melodic whisper inviting Maarten to listen closer. 

"I have made peace with the fact that she likely perished. She has never missed her monthly letters before... Perhaps she offended Siren Serene with her frequent hubris on her way back home." Rose took a sip of her honey mead as she spoke of her memories. After a brief pause, the red-haired woman found herself smiling sheepishly at her drink. "I am not here to look for her or find out what happened. It is my own desire for travel that has brought me. I just thought that it might be nice to visit the place my mother seemed to love. To continue writing the letters she never got to send."

"To experience life is to live. I am... a somewhat passive person." She turned her gaze back to Maarten. "A merchant friend from the Midlands divined my future when last we spoke. I do quite enjoy the interpreters of the Divining Cards. She taught me a lot about it during her stay in Sirensong."

"The card showed the reversed Chrysalis. She... said that I needed to do something. That I could not remain as I was simply taking care of my father's home. And so I set out on my own to find, well- I'm not quite sure. Something." She glanced to the side once again. A small frown between her brows betrayed her hesitation. Still, she had to move with some conviction. Those who wavered would be swallowed by the mist. Her mother had always said that Siren Serene would be disappointed with her lack of passion. Although Rose herself thought she just had yet to find it for herself.

Character Name: Roselinde "Rose" Marsh

Character Race: Half Fey-Touched / Human

Character Age: 28

Character Height: 5'8

Brief Physical Description: Rose is an elegant woman with pale sun-kissed skin and long wavy dark red hair that often falls over her eyes. Her eyes are quite droopy and thus often appear closed, not least because they are a dark red color which blends in a little with her lashes. She often wears a long pink dress with a side slit and a red rose adorning her chest. With red lipstick and dark red heels she looks quite refined and gentle.

Hello! My name is Blinx, and I'll be handling your whitelist application. Apologies for the delay!

I have a few notes before I can approve the application.

First, humans in Avalore are capable of having the natural shades of "red" hair that real humans can, meaning shades of ginger. Fey-Touched can have natural red hair, so if you'd like Rosalinde to keep the same shade she could be mixed Arsa Sidhe & Fey Touched with a tweak to her eyes (more info on half-races here!). If you'd prefer not to, I'd ask her hair colour be changed from red.

Additionally, I initially read the last letter Rose received from her mother as implying her intended destination before going missing was the Spire itself. On closer inspection it seems it's unspecified, and in that case I want to make a note that while the modern Spire does have a port, five years ago it likely would not have been the site of significant ongoing naval trade. I don't believe anything Rose's backstory actually requires editing, as long as this is factored into how her mother would've arrived to visit the Spire in the first place.

Hi hi! Thank you for taking the time to look over my application ^-^

I do like the idea of her being half fey-touched, so I like that change a lot and went with that! I hope solid black is an acceptable eye color? If not I can change it to something else- the description simply said "solid colors" so I hope that is okay!

In her backstory, it was intended to imply that her mother set out 5 years ago and still wrote letters until somewhat recently. I initially left the timeframe a little open in that regard to be vague and to imply that the letters stopped recently, but still long enough for Rose to believe she may have died - but I should have phrased that a little better to make it clear what it was intended to convey! I clarified it in the roleplay reply and I hope it's acceptable! ️
