In-Character

Read the following prompt:

The sound of clinking glasses and idle chatter welcome you in as you find yourself stepping into The Full Cask. An older man with a full mustache and warm smile beckons you over to the bar he's tending. His gazes washes over you, a glint of some knowing look shining in his eyes. As you sit, his voice rumbles out:

"Hello there stranger! What can I get for you?" 

After you order, he continues to make small talk. "You must be a newcomer. I'm Maarten, glad to meet you." He says with a certain kindness in his tone. 

"Tell me, what brings you to the Spire?"

How do you respond (in character)? (250 word minimum - please make sure to include at least three references to our lore in your response, with two coming from different pages in the Compendium.  Two of the three selected should also be in-depth, avoid simply name-dropping lore terms. Tie the terms into your character's backstory. Why are they important to them?)

Your Response:

Harlow's eyes grew wide as a seat was offered to them. Their eyes darted around, as if looking for anyone else the man might be talking to. When it became aparent to them that they were being addressed, they quickly sat down. "I, uh, whatever is most common to drink here." They asked as their eyes swept over the inside of the bar, green eyes catching on anything that seemed new to them.

Their gaze swept back to the man. "Maarten." They nodded with a small smile. "You may call me Harlow. I'm from the Fallstone region. 

They were silent for a moment, tapping their fingers on the bar before speaking back up. "Well, honestly, I have no clue!" They let out a laugh that sounded half panicked for a moment. "I just...left home one day. Traded with a few caravans for passage, and eventually found my way here." They let the words sit for a moment before deflating a little. "It was completely irresponsible of me. Really, I should be back home, helping in the fields with my family." One of their hands moved to their forearm, running fingers over the green marks on their arms that resembled bark and vines. Strange for a Fey-Touched that claimed to be from the Faded Steppe.

"But I just...I just suddenly had the urge to just... go. To do anything else but stay there and keep harvesting wheat for the rest of my life, like the rest of my family." They looked up to him with a sparkle in their eyes. "I want to see the world! Explore and meet people! Maybe even learn magic. While it's not exactly looked down upon among Falstoners, it was always just seen as cheap tricks, but it's gotta be more than that, right?" They leaned in suddenly, looking as if they were telling a secret. "I've heard stories of Wild Nature, and the followers of it too. That...that interests me, though I have no idea where I would find them or it?" They pursed their lips. "It sounds wonderful, to be out in nature, in communication with it like that, but I wonder if that means I would get stuck somewhere as well. No matter what I want to be able to explore, to go wherever the road takes me."

They looked to him before realizing they may have gotten ahead of themself. They shook their head with a small laugh. "Sorry, didn't mean to go rambling on like that. I'm still trying to figure things out." They grabbed the drink from the bar before taking a big drink. They startled slightly at the taste, but were licking their lips when they set the glass back down. "Oh wow! That's good!"

Brief Physical Description: Harlow has brown hair that reaches their lower back and pale green eyes. Despite being from Fallstone, they sport bark markings and vine-like bits on their skin. They feel no shame in these and often wear short sleeves to show them off.

Hello shadowknightgay. My name is Faye and I will be processing your whitelist application.

You have understood Fey-touched quite well, which is great to see! However, there are two issues with your character concept.

The first one is the "vine-like veins" underneath the skin. That is not allowed for Fey-Touched to start. You can see characters who have vine structures on their body, but that is because they were revived through Graveblossom (see the Ichor capstone spell) because of events happened through roleplay on the server.

However, I see that you put a lot of work into your character's skin to depict that. So if you change the description for it to be leafy bits on the arms, then you don't have to change the visuals of your skin at all for it to work.

The second issue is with your lore references.

Currently, the lore references I see are:

1. Your character was originally a wheat farmer from Fallstone who ran away from home.
2. They are potentially interested in learning more about magic despite their community believing that magic is simply "cheap tricks".

We require that you have three references, two of which must be more detailed references. I would appreciated it if you added one more detailed reference to the lore and why that detail is important to your character.

If you sufficiently tie your character into the world by expanding your lore references, then we may move on with the application process.
