The Surface

Ynesalith is slight of build with long, bony-leaning fingers. She is typically seen smaller than she is, given her larger clothing meant to protect her skin (though this may be more of a hypochondriac tendency) dwarfs her a touch. The skin in question is ashen, leaning white--starkly contrasted by her black scales and fingers. Her scales are not so abundant as would be found in a full fire Fey-Touched, though still prominent. Her eyes are the color of an iris, drenched by the rain. She is naturally a sort of sodden person, and it seems to have seeped into her being. At a glance, her tired eyes are the most immediate feature to be noticed. Upon closer inspection, her features are tidy, angular, yet somehow fragile--akin to a sad looking house cat. Her hair pokes out from beneath her hood, a cascade of black waves maintained in a bubble braid that reaches the thigh.ย

A Footnote, Under an Ink Stain

Ynesalith began her journey in the Ashlands. Her mother, a full fire Fey-Touched hailing from a long pride of history amongst the Fireborne, doted on her. Ynesalith's mother knew her daughter took more after the father. It changed nothing about the fact she was her child to love and protect. This love and protection did not spare Ynesalith the culture at large that would not see her the same way her mother would. She tried to be stronger than she was born, she tried to learn to fight. It was inevitable that after a few swings, a couple punches, she'd cower back to her home. She was always so much smaller than the others, and there was no wisdom to be found in denying it. In the stead of strength and resilience, Ynesalith turned to books and academia. She scrounged what she could, becoming a recluse into her teenage years while she remained at home. Contact with anyone beyond her mother trickled out. The clans of the Fireborne do not suffer an underdeveloped runt in a place that demands blood and sweat. In the dawning of her adult years, it was evident to Ynesalith, although her mother would not say it, that she was a shame. Her life was unremarkable, Her presence in the clans was no more than an embarrassing footnote, buried beneath an ink stain. Her mother was a powerful woman, whose service and prowess spoke for itself--but it did not change the fact that Ynesalith knew her mother deserved better than such a shame of a daughter. At the age of 22, she packed the lightest of her belongings. She promised her mother she just wanted to see the world. It was true. But the unspoken was Ynesalith giving the gift of her own, silent exile. She'd made her mother suffer being her parent for too long. She set out on foot, making a year long journey to reach the Spire....and carve out an existence where previously she could only be.....

Friends

+Rosamund Thornheart+ I hadn't considered such a thing possible. I should be cautious, I should not wave the word of 'friend' so freely...but if I cannot believe you to be honest, my journey should have ended before I left home. Teach me to have faith, your warmth is surely a good sign.ย

+Royvin 'Roy' Odokhi+ We had an unexpected, long conversation. I don't know that I've ever held someone's attention that long...as though I had anything to say. What a friendly countenance, and answering all my silly questions. I want to know more about the world as you've seen it. I.O.U.ย

Day 1 +ย

Spoiler
It was hard to begin with rough sleep in the town. The next morning was slow, aching from the alley I'd picked. I finished a last bite of bread, enough to hold me over in the library. The space was full of books I could have never imagined, so this will be a project for many days....months. Eventually I had to remind myself there was nowhere else to be going. I had to find how I would make my living for the rest of this existence. In my wandering, I came across a tailor's shop. Really, I couldn't believe it hadn't occurred to me to consider my presentation. What a fool. There was a woman, I believe the kindest face I've seen besides Mother's. Her welcome was...immediate. How to wrap my head around this. She didn't know me from the next gawker at her store, though all the same, I was brought inside. I was received withย patience. It feels so strange, trying to warm up to being spoken to like this. She told me a place I could find aid, perhaps to get me on my feet--The Roots. In pausing on the stoop, she saw where she could help me personally. I was given crowns...I couldn't accept this without giving in return. Lo, and there she offered me a job. The Roots may still be something to lean on--I do not want to abuse Rosamund's kindness. Dear Rosamund. I find myself with lessons in sewing, gratefully busy hands, and a warm bed....ย
