OOC

Minecraft Username: Jallentime

Are you at least 18 years old?: Yes

Have you read the rules? (Link): Yep

(Optional) How did you hear about Avalore?: Random discord chitchat.

(Max. 1) Were you referred by someone? If so, please provide their in-game username: I will provide it if this application passes, so as to not embarrass them if it should fail.

(Optional) Introduce yourself if you’d like, as well as any creations you want to share (e.g. art, builds, skins): Hello everybody my name is Jallentime. I’m a veteran of the MCRP scene (which means I hate myself) looking for the next big, juicy time-sink.

In-Character

Read the following prompt:

The sound of clinking glasses and idle chatter welcome you in as you find yourself stepping into The Full Cask. An older man with a full mustache and warm smile beckons you over to the bar he's tending. His gaze washes over you, a glint of some knowing look shining in his eyes. As you sit, his voice rumbles out:

"Hello there stranger! What can I get for you?"

After you order, he continues to make small talk. "You must be a newcomer. I'm Maarten, glad to meet you." He says with a certain kindness in his tone.

"Tell me, what brings you to the Spire?"

How do you respond (in character)? (250 word minimum - please make sure to include at least three references to our lore in your response, with two coming from different pages in the Compendium.  Two of the three selected should also be in-depth, avoid simply name-dropping lore terms. Tie the terms into your character's backstory. Why are they important to them?)

Usage of AI to generate, modify or translate the writing on your application will result in denial of your whitelist. There will be no chance to re-apply afterwards.

Your Response:

Pete leans on the counter and goes to take a sip from his tankard, but stops short as a chuckle makes its way out, “Let’s just call it retirement.” He raises a hand, to indicate a pause as he downs part of his drink, “You may have heard of me. The names’ Peter Palmer, of Peter Palmer’s Pickled Peach Emporium.” He continues, not allowing the bartender to interject, “I was a pretty important person back in Rulan.” He purses his lips with pride, “My mother always told me, ‘PETE QUIT TRYING TO PICKLE EVERYTHING NOBODY WANTS PICKLED PARSNIP OR PICKLED PARTRIDGE. HOW ABOUT YOU PICK UP SOME BRICKS AND GET A REAL JOB AT THE MASON’S GUILD.’” He wags a finger at the bartender, “You know what I told her? I told her, ‘Yeah ma I already did, they threw me out because I smelled like vinegar.’”

An hour passes.

Pete, now sitting behind three empty tankards, has begun to sway a bit as he slurs out his continuing story, “An’ then, wouldn’t ya believ et, she left me for a Greatling.” He sputters out like he barely believes it himself, “How em I suppos’ to compete with tha’!? The bloke is seven feet ‘all! Debra always loved a tall man.” His voice cracks a bit, “He had great big green eyes, and-and a mane loike a lion. AN’ THE FRECKLES, SHE KEPT STARIN AT ‘IS FRECKLES.” He mutters quietly into his tankard, “Whoi couldn’t ay have freckles? NooOOOOoo all I got were eczema.”

Another hour passes.

Pete is now partially obscured behind a hill of empty tankards. At no point during this monologue has the bartender gotten so much as a word out. Our protagonist’s speech is muffled as he yells into the bar, “WHY DID YOU LEAVE ME DEBRA? WHAT DID I DO WRONG? I TRIED MY HARDEST WITH YOU BUT I JUST- “ He inhales, “I COULDN’T STOP DRINKING. THE WHISKEY IS ADDICTIVE.” He sobs, “THEY PUT ME ON THE WALL ON ACCOUNT OF MY DRINKING, AND THEY KICKED ME OUT ON ACCOUNT OF MY DRINKING. THEY SHOULDA JUST THROWN ME OFF THE TOP.”

This continues for some time until Pete is eventually thrown out on the street and he staggers away to throw up in an alley his next adventure.

Character Name: Pete Palmer

Character Race: Human

Character Age: 62

Character Height: 5’6

Brief Physical Description: Peter Palmer is an old, portly man with a pot belly and deep bags under his eyes. The years have not been kind to ol’ Pete, and it shows on his rough skin and greying hair. He happens to be blind in his right eye but there’s no scarring to allude to how such happened. Pete’s posture is notable in that he walks with a very subtle hunch.
