Minecraft Username: NorminalRaptor

Are you at least 18 years old?: Yes

Have you read the rules? (Link): Yessss

(Optional) Were you referred by someone? If so, who: I watched the forgotten MC Servers video by Redlyne. Upon finishing the HollowWorld section, I felt very emotionally attached to a world in which I had never before experienced. How was it that such a massive conglomerate of in-depth lore, character essays, and server history were wiped away in the blink of an eye? I couldn’t believe it. One comment conveyed my emotions on the topic perfectly; “HollowWorld being shut down feels like when the Library of Alexandria was burnt to the ground.” I immediately began digging in the comment section for any signs of something that might be able to provide a similar experience. After some panicked scrolling, I found a comment mentioning ‘Avalore’; a new server made by former HollowWorld RPers that seemed to have seen some success since its recent launch. I clicked a link, and now here I am.

(Optional) Introduce yourself if you’d like, as well as any creations you want to share (e.g. art, builds, skins): Hi, I’m Norminal! I’m a history/mythology/earth science nerd who has dabbled in roleplay and world-building in the past. I’m a still-learning digital artist, and an enjoyer of all things classical. I hope to expand my roleplaying skills on this server, as I have limited experience role-playing in MC.

In-Character

Read the following prompt:

The rhythmic lull of hoofbeats are a marching drum to the small group of pioneers and variety of folk you have found yourself amongst, packed into a wobbling wagon. The rolling plains of the Southern Reach and a clear sky stretch out all around you, the buzz of excited chatter a dull wash in your ears as your mind strays to your former life and what has led you here to new lands.

“Nervous?”

You blink, returning to the present moment. A kindly older woman sat near you is smiling warmly with a crinkle to her eyes.

“I can tell it’s your first time. Still remember mine,” she flashes a grin and leans in.

“Tell me my dear, why have you come to the Reach?”

How do you respond (in character)(150 words minimum - please make sure to include some references to our lore in your response!)

Lucius opened his eyes, staring at the old woman with a reproachful gaze. What potential consequences could come from him telling the truth? Should she truly know by his own word that he had never been to the Southern Reach… Surely not… He knew it was rare, but better he knew what occasionally happened to those travelers whose first time it was venturing amongst a caravan of strangers towards some distant lands. He’d seen it himself traveling from the Midlands to the North; unfortunate souls, befriended by a former lackey or a rotten vagabond, who then spill the details of their life to their new friend, only for that ‘friend’ to capitalize on their lack of conversance with the road of travel, and rob them at dagger point. A worse fate yet, would be to pike them in the back of the neck while they lay asleep. It was then that he remembered a motto taught to him by his Mother ever since he began his wandering journeys into the Midland forests as a child: “Nothing can harm you if you’ve prepared and gathered the beta to avoid the situation altogether.”

And so gather ‘beta’, Lucius did.

Lucius narrowed his gaze, studying the woman. She looked frail, and definitely posed no harm to him physically, though Lucius couldn’t ever be completely sure. Her posture was relaxed and forward as she stared back at him, eagerly awaiting an answer to her question. Lucius looked to his travel bag, full of everything he owned that could be carried, bulky and sitting in his lap, bouncing with the motions of the carriage.

‘Thanks, mother.’ He muttered silently.

As he looked up, his Hazel eyes returned the woman’s gaze, now presenting a far more open expression with his signature soft grin. Half of the truth would need to suffice.

“What do you know of the disappearance of the Aedall, miss?” He leaned closer; “I mean, what do you really know?”

The old woman’s expression changed to one of contemplation. Clearly she hadn’t thought much on this topic. She thought for a moment, and then replied softly, keeping her tone low.

“I’ve not thought about that much. ‘Fact I’ve not even heard much at all. What I can recall is that those strange Arsa Sidhe vanished. It’s why we’re here, of course.”

Lucius nodded, grinning now wider.

”Exactly.” He replied, matter-of-factly. “It’s why you’re here, It’s why they’re here.” He exclaimed, gesturing to the old woman and those in the carriage surrounding the two.

”It’s why I’m here. We all have our reasons of course, some for wealth, some for glory, some for land, others for a fresh start, or for an escape…”

The woman held a puzzled look for a moment as her eyes began to slowly widen.
”You say you’re a criminal?”

He laughed, scratching his haphazardly trimmed beard impulsively.
“No no, far from it really. My job here is to find out why we’ve all come here in the first place. I’m an archeologist, see. I’m going to at the very least try to figure out why the entire Aedall culture vanished. I’ve been provided a grant by the university in Mariza to preform an archeological study here.”

The first lie, and certainly not the last. The appearance of official business would hopefully deter the less-confident of those who’d inevitably try to foil what is ultimately Lucius’s wholly unsponsored and independent study. Appearances would need to be maintained for now for the purpose of maintaining that deterrence. He hoped that soon after his arrival, he could begin his studies away from prying eyes.

“Ah!” Laughed the old lady excitedly “Now that’s quite especial! Been a while since I’ve spoken with an academic, much less one traveling to the spire!”

Lucius smirked, nodding softly. He relaxed back as much as he could ‘relax’ into the uncomfortable wood paneling of the carriage. Through the front of the carriage and the fluttering canvas flap, he could see that they’d arrive in a matter of minutes.
‘Soon.’ He thought to himself. ‘Soon…’
