I’ve been roleplaying for a very long time, and I’ve been a fan of TTRPGS like Pathfinder and Dungeons and Dragons for most of my life. While I’ve never participated in a minecraft roleplay, I’m eager to start.

Read the following prompt:
The rhythmic lull of hoofbeats are a marching drum to the small group of pioneers and variety of folk you have found yourself amongst, packed into a wobbling wagon. The rolling plains of the Southern Reach and a clear sky stretch out all around you, the buzz of excited chatter a dull wash in your ears as your mind strays to your former life and what has led you here to new lands.
“Nervous?”
You blink, returning to the present moment. A kindly older woman sat near you is smiling warmly with a crinkle to her eyes.
“I can tell it’s your first time. Still remember mine,” she flashes a grin and leans in.
“Tell me my dear, why have you come to the Reach?”

Karadai blinked a couple of times, his mind racing to catch up with the present moment. He rolled his shoulders slightly, trying to stretch his sore muscles. He sat with his knees touching and his shoulders hunched, arms pulled inwards, in an attempt to make himself smaller for the comfort of others in the wagon. His eyes met with the old woman’s after a moment, taking in her question at last.
“It is cold where I am from.” He finally spoke after a prolonged silence. The old woman laughed lightly, and Karadai noted how youthful it still sounded.
“That can’t be your only reason, now can it.” She teased him playfully after he stayed silent for a second more.
Karadai chuckled and shook his head. “It is not, no.” His eyes drifted outside the cart, towards the sky. He instinctively began to trace his eyes over the constellations, settling on The Knighting. He swallowed and tried to quiet the discomfort in his chest
“When I was a boy,” He began slowly, he had not yet begun to feel comfortable speaking only in Common, “I saw a Valkian knight. He had trekked into the mountains on some quest or another, aiming to slay some beast that had fled up there after terrorizing the villages below. I didn’t pay much attention to his story at the time. I was busy staring at how his armor shined in the light of the sun, reflecting its harshness back into the snow and stone around him. He seemed invincible.”
“I had wandered away from my clan, as I often did as a boy. My poor mother could hardly keep track of me.” Karadai let a smile grace his lips at the thought of his mother. “This time, I had wandered too far. A blizzard had covered my tracks home, and I was certain I’d never find my mother again. But there he was, shining in the sun, ready to help a poor lost child even at the expense of losing the trail of the monster he had sworn to hunt. I couldn’t speak a word of common at the time, and he barely spoke any Greatling, but he knew a cry for help no matter the language.”
“He took me with him across the mountains in search of my family, never letting me out of his sight. Tracking monsters was a specialty of his, so tracking my own trail was nothing new to him, even covered with a fresh layer of snow as it was. I still remember what he said when my mother tried to reward him.”
“‘No need, I’m just happy to have helped.’” He laughed lightly at the thought, his voice bouncing off the walls of the wagon and escaping into the night.
The old woman smiled once more. "What became of the monster?”
“I believe my mother had already slain it. She didn’t become chieftain of our clan by allowing any old monster to come making trouble in her mountain.” Karadai’s chest warmed at the thought of home. The boisterous laughter and warm ale. His brothers competing with him in the summer, trying to break their personal log tossing records. Traveling to the base of the mountains to trade and learn from the valley dwellers. The warm embrace of his mother, assuring him he would always be welcome up there, in the cold.
His eyes drifted towards the moon, and he couldn’t help but think of the Equinox. Constantly chasing after the tail of the Phoenix, always just behind. What would happen if it finally got what it wanted? Would it burst into brilliant flame, consumed by the light it had sought? Was that his fate? Is he chasing a dream he can never catch? Or will the act of obtaining it ignite him, turning him to ash. He shook his head and turned to face the old woman again with a smile.
“You asked why I came to the Southern Reach, yes? Apologies, the mind is prone to wander. My answer is simple. I came to help.”

Character Name: Karadai
Character Race: Greatling
Character Age: 24
Brief Physical Description: Karadai cuts a hulking figure, at 8 '3, he is tall even for his people. He is broadly built; his body having received more than enough exercise traveling the mountain paths of his youth. He has deep green eyes and a bald head. He has no scars to show, a fact he is often proud of considering some of the injuries his brothers have had. Altogether he is an imposing figure but tries his best to appear gentle to appease ensure his friendliness comes across.
