Read the following prompt:
The rhythmic lull of hoofbeats are a marching drum to the small group of pioneers and variety of folk you have found yourself amongst, packed into a wobbling wagon. The rolling plains of the Southern Reach and a clear sky stretch out all around you, the buzz of excited chatter a dull wash in your ears as your mind strays to your former life and what has led you here to new lands.
“Nervous?”
You blink, returning to the present moment. A kindly older woman sat near you is smiling warmly with a crinkle to her eyes.
“I can tell it’s your first time. Still remember mine,” she flashes a grin and leans in.
“Tell me my dear, why have you come to the Reach?”
How do you respond (in character)? (150 words minimum - please make sure to include at least three references to our lore in your response, with two coming from different pages in the Compendium. Two of the three selected should also be in-depth, avoid simply name-dropping lore terms. Tie the terms into your character's backstory. Why are they important to them?)
— The woman's question is but a mumble in Kohaku's head, interrupting the reminiscence of the peaks he'd been surrounded by for so long, the way the clouds swirled around them. It wasn't nerves getting to him, but an odd sense of homesickness. No matter how unforgiving and difficult the homeland was, it was home. Harmonious in its own way. It never dawned on him that he'd be living and dying in the same place until a passing traveler shared - a bit too much, in his private opinion - stories of change, variation.
It's the second question, no matter how grandmotherly he notes her to appear, that churns the distant reverie on his face to pensive defense. "Change," he comments, resituating his posture into something far more proper and clearing the elvish accent from his speech. He can't help, however, how his hand moves to the leather bound knife at his hip. A last thread to heritage he was unable to leave behind. "Change is necessary, else the soul becomes restless and the warring begins. The fox will lose its cunning without seeing more than its own burrow. I couldn't bear to remain so untraveled and still call myself wise."
A thoughtful moment is taken, perhaps only to decide whether or not to humor the woman further. "The Reach seemed enough a change to all the ways I know." The rolling hills they travelled return that homesickness like a stone in his stomach. "And... to lead a more purposeful life, I suppose. Else I reincarnate as something as insignificant as a gnat."
