In-Character
Read the following prompt:
The rhythmic lull of hoofbeats are a marching drum to the small group of pioneers and variety of folk you have found yourself amongst, packed into a wobbling wagon. The rolling plains of the Southern Reach and a clear sky stretch out all around you, the buzz of excited chatter a dull wash in your ears as your mind strays to your former life and what has led you here to new lands.
“Nervous?”
You blink, returning to the present moment. A kindly older woman sat near you is smiling warmly with a crinkle to her eyes.
“I can tell it’s your first time. Still remember mine,” she flashes a grin and leans in.
“Tell me my dear, why have you come to the Reach?”
How do you respond (in character)? (150 words minimum - please make sure to include at least three references to our lore in your response, with two coming from different pages in the Compendium. Two of the three selected should also be in-depth, avoid simply name-dropping lore terms. Tie the terms into your character's backstory. Why are they important to them?)
Sor startles slightly upon being addressed, instinctively tugging their hood down and looking away. They have their glasses on, the dark, tinted lenses hiding the pale emptiness of their Fey-touched eyes, but they've long ago learned that they can't just rely on that to hide their nature. They open their mouth to speak, something in the kind woman's words nearly compelling them to give an honest answer, to spill to this stranger all the wandering, all the rejection that they've faced. They clamp it shut at the last second though, cutting themselves off as a bump in the road shifts the bandages that pin their feathers tightly to their back and arms. A small, brief exhale is the only indication something is wrong, and for a moment they hope the woman hasn't noticed. When they glance up, though, she's still looking at them with those warm, aged eyes, now with a flicker of concern in her brow. Sor clears their throat, realizing she's still waiting on an answer. "I'm just...I wanted to see what all the fuss was about." They answer, and it's only a half-lie. They are interested in seeing the Spire and the strange, old lands that surround it. Tales of the Aedall, their strange, isolated culture, and their disappearance reach far, and Sor has always loved stories. More than that, though, they just want to find a place to belong, somewhere where maybe they won't feel like so much of an outcast. Somewhere their fey-cursed luck can't reach.
They pointedly turn away from the woman, feeling a flicker of guilt at pushing her away. It's for the best, though, better for both of them. They adjust the cap that covers their hair beneath their hood, making a mental note to re-dye it as they spot a strand that's nearly faded back to white.

Character Name: Sor, but they usually go by Sparrow
Character Race: Fae-Touched
Character Age: 17
Brief Physical Description: Small and slender, Sor is often mistaken for several years younger than they actually are. With pale skin, rare white-blonde hair, and empty off-white eyes, they struggle to fit into a crowd. They keep their arm and back feathers bound with bandages underneath their pale blue shirt and red vest, relying on a long, dark blue skirt and thick boots to hide the feathers on their legs. They cover their head with a cap, dying the bits of hair that stick out with whatever they can find. Thick, round glasses with dark lenses cover their eyes, and they keep their hood up wherever they can get away with it.
