They take a deep breath, hesitating before responding.
"I’ve come to the Reach to find redemption. Back home in the Isles, I failed my crew. We were escorting a ship carrying goods from the Arsa Sidhe ruins, a dangerous endeavor, but the Mistans prize the trade in relics. During the voyage, we were attacked by something from the depths, a beast like those in the old sailor’s tales. A kraken, they said, or something even worse. My parents were aboard, and… I couldn’t save them."
Their voice hardens as they continue.
"The council blamed me. Said I’d angered the sea gods or brought a curse upon us. They didn’t force me to leave, but I knew I couldn’t stay. So here I am, bound for the Southern Reach a place as untamed and chaotic as the ocean itself. A place where they say you can find your destiny, or lose yourself entirely."
They pause, rubbing the sigil on their forearm.
"You see, it’s not just the kraken I carry with me. When I survived that attack, I was visited in my dreams by the voice of a siren. I know the fable, the Siren's Singer, the one bound to the sea, with a song that either leads sailors to their doom or gives them power beyond their comprehension. I didn't ask for this, but the voice in my head—the song—it calls to me, sometimes when I least expect it."
Their gaze darkens.
"I came to the Reach, hoping to outrun the past and the pull of the deep. But if I’m honest, I’m not sure if I’m running from my past or if the sea is drawing me deeper still."

Practical attire, consisting of a long coat with sea-worn edges and a sash where their dual cutlasses rest. A faintly glowing mark can be seen on their forearm, visible under moonlight, a mark of their pact with the sea.
