THE FORCE OF THE LAW
Today, excessive force was used on myself and my lover in what began a simple, non-violent altercation.
The altercation, which began with hostile words, rapidly turned into the constable, a man named Raime, attempting to, in his own words, ‘break’ my lover in front of me. First, he grabbed my partner’s wrist and began to twist. Then, a kick was delivered to my partner’s legs.
Now, we were not innocent, I confess. The issue started with my Cadayle being cruel to my partner, referring to him as an animal. This is perhaps not unexpected from Cadayle, but on a return of such hostilities, culminating in a theft of her drink and a petty pour of such onto her person, this government official did not intervene as Cadayle brought her hands to my neck and squeezed.
Then when me and my partner attempted to leave, not wishing for a further altercation, the constable stopped us and, instead of understandably restraining us, should he believe a crime was committed, he began to pummel my partner, wounding him while calling him a dog.
He was not wishing to let us go. We are only well and whole because bystanders stepped in. If you were one of those bystanders, I apologise wholeheartedly for the inconvenience, and thank all those responsible for our current good health. Without your kindness, I know not how the day would have concluded.
I know we did not do everything right. We should have attempted to leave sooner, certainly. Even were you to consider Cadayle’s harsh words, Raime’s bitter sentiment and the way his hand began to twist my lover’s wrist as if to snap it, this could have been avoided with an earlier departure.
But does that truly give one the right to hurt us so physically? We did not raise our hands against either of them, even in our escape. The spells I cast were to attempt to get us home, to prevent Cadayle from killing either of us, and they were only cast after her hands closed around my throat. Our intentions were only ever to exit the bar safely.
And as I sit here, neck bruised and partner battered from an assault I forsee no repercussions for, I cannot help but wish for action. For justice, for something to change.
I wish to live in a town where the Constable does not use incredibly excessive force over a drink. I wish to live in a town where my lover is not compared to a beast.
For those who have stuck with me to the end of this notice, I can only thank you…and pray your passing day was more pleasant than mine.
