In-Character
Read the following prompt:
The rhythmic lull of hoofbeats are a marching drum to the small group of pioneers and variety of folk you have found yourself amongst, packed into a wobbling wagon. The rolling plains of the Southern Reach and a clear sky stretch out all around you, the buzz of excited chatter a dull wash in your ears as your mind strays to your former life and what has led you here to new lands.
“Nervous?”
You blink, returning to the present moment. A kindly older woman sat near you is smiling warmly with a crinkle to her eyes.
“I can tell it’s your first time. Still remember mine,” she flashes a grin and leans in.
“Tell me my dear, why have you come to the Reach?”
How do you respond (in character)? (250 word minimum - please make sure to include at least three references to our lore in your response, with two coming from different pages in the Compendium. Two of the three selected should also be in-depth, avoid simply name-dropping lore terms. Tie the terms into your character's backstory. Why are they important to them?)
Royal sat down his book, pushing some of his hair behind his ear to the new company on the Caravan. His brother next to him asleep. "Oh don't mind him, he tends to run away from conversation it seems. This smaller oaf."
"Well, I from from the Valkian Empire, the wall most importantly. Have you been? I promise, its the safest place on land. Oh and the Valks, the Valks are just the best people as well. The way they spear headed language to be common? Or how about their customs? I much prefer to burn than bury thing they have going on, unlike the rest of the world. Setting their soul free from a body, its a beautiful custom- not much more beautiful than their festivals though. The food is so splendid. I hate to think of the food we will be served in the swamp- the Spire, I mean. The Spire."
"I will miss the merchant streets, alright.. You always see those people waving around those.. oh what do they call it. The lucky coins?" Royal gave a laugh. "Its so amusing to see how fast people will show it off and gamble it all away. Truly some pass time entertainment to watch from above. My family believes in the whole 'Lady of the Lake' and 'Lucky coin' thing. But for myself? Oh, no. Just superstician. People can claim what they want but they will never force me to believe in all that." Royal flipped a hand dismissively to the idea.
"You know, my brother is from the North of the Valkian Empire. I think the best thing we are moving away from is that hideous beast called the Mournshade. They are the size of people! I couldn't imagine encountering one. Best we be moving away from /that/ thing. I do hope in the Spire there is lest beasts, least they offer some great shining along the way to pamper up clothing and gems." Royal eventually pulled out his book then, after speaking his mind on what he wanted to say. "Oh, what about you? Why do you travel to the reach so often?"
