In-Character
Read the following prompt:
The rhythmic lull of hoofbeats are a marching drum to the small group of pioneers and variety of folk you have found yourself amongst, packed into a wobbling wagon. The rolling plains of the Southern Reach and a clear sky stretch out all around you, the buzz of excited chatter a dull wash in your ears as your mind strays to your former life and what has led you here to new lands.
“Nervous?”
You blink, returning to the present moment. A kindly older woman sat near you is smiling warmly with a crinkle to her eyes.
“I can tell it’s your first time. Still remember mine,” she flashes a grin and leans in.
“Tell me my dear, why have you come to the Reach?”
How do you respond (in character)? (250 word minimum - please make sure to include at least three references to our lore in your response, with two coming from different pages in the Compendium. Two of the three selected should also be in-depth, avoid simply name-dropping lore terms. Tie the terms into your character's backstory. Why are they important to them?)

“Nervous? Nah, not really. More like… contemplative. You know, the kind of contemplative that comes when you’re tryin’ to figure out if this wagon’s got enough cushion for a proper nap.” He flashes a lazy grin, his tone dripping with sarcasm, but there’s a glimmer of something sharper beneath the surface—a hint of the keen mind that hides behind his sleepy exterior.
The woman chuckles, clearly amused by his nonchalance, but Cidhan’s gaze drifts past her, out to the endless plains of the Southern Reach. His voice softens, losing some of its usual edge. “Truth is, I’m here ‘cause the swamp back home got a bit too… predictable. You know how it is—same old mud, same old Folks givin’ you the stink eye for trespassing, same old Walljacks arguing over who gets the last bit of jerky. Needed a change of scenery, I guess.”
He pauses, his fingers idly tracing the rim of his hat, which rests on his lap. “Plus, there’s somethin’ ‘about the Reach that calls to folks like me. Heard stories about the Portents—those spectral witches who make deals with the desperate. Back home, some Jacks would whisper about them like they were boogeymen, but I always figured there’s more to them than just spooky tales, I’m curious I guess.”
Cidhan’s eyes narrow slightly, his tone shifting to something more thoughtful. “Then there’s the Lady of the Lake. She’s a big deal in the Valkian Realm, always going on about honor and chivalry. Me? I never much cared for all that knightly nonsense. " He leans forward slightly, his tone shifting to something more serious, though still laced with his trademark sarcasm. “You see, Walljacks… we’re not exactly the Lady’s favorite people. She’s all about honor, oaths, and keepin’ your word no matter what. But us? We’re survivors. We do what we gotta do to get by. Sometimes that means bending the truth, or breaking a promise if it means keeping our pact safe. The Lady calls it dishonorable. We call it Survivence”
The woman nods slowly, her eyes narrowing as if trying to piece together the puzzle that is Cidhan. “So you’re running from her judgment?”
Cidhan chuckles, a low, rumbling sound that seems to come from deep within. “Judgment? Nah . The Lady can keep her judgments and her oaths. I’m not runnin’ from anything. I’m just… movin’ at my own pace."
He leans back again, his trademark smirk returning. “But mostly, I’m here because I heard the Reach’s got some real nice spots for nappin’. Wide-open skies, soft grass. Sounds like paradise to me.”
He leans back, his smirk returning as he adjusts his hat over his face, blocking out the sun. “But hey,” he adds, his voice muffled but still dripping with sarcasm, “if it doesn’t work out, at least I’ll have plenty of time to catch up on my sleep.”
Character Name: Cidhan
Character Race: Human ( WallJack )
Character Age: 18
Brief Physical Description:
Cidhan is a tall man, standing at 1.80 meters. His long, messy, dark brown hair falls over his face like a curtain, partially obscuring his golden hazel eyes, which shine with a surprising intensity when something catches his interest. At first glance, he always seems on the verge of sleep, with a relaxed posture and an expression that suggests he would rather be anywhere but where he is. However, those who know him well know that behind that lazy facade lies something else.
