In-Character
Read the following prompt:
The rhythmic lull of hoofbeats are a marching drum to the small group of pioneers and variety of folk you have found yourself amongst, packed into a wobbling wagon. The rolling plains of the Southern Reach and a clear sky stretch out all around you, the buzz of excited chatter a dull wash in your ears as your mind strays to your former life and what has led you here to new lands.
“Nervous?”
You blink, returning to the present moment. A kindly older woman sat near you is smiling warmly with a crinkle to her eyes.
“I can tell it’s your first time. Still remember mine,” she flashes a grin and leans in.
“Tell me my dear, why have you come to the Reach?”
How do you respond (in character)? (250 word minimum - please make sure to include at least three references to our lore in your response, with two coming from different pages in the Compendium. Two of the three selected should also be in-depth, avoid simply name-dropping lore terms. Tie the terms into your character's backstory. Why are they important to them?)
closest towards the opened end of the wagon, Ostra was seen staring up above towards the sky. The night sky, arguably his favorite time. He wasn’t sure if there was much of difference from seeing the stars from the mountains back in Tamohn or down here on the plains, no matter what the stars just seemed so far from his grasp. It almost looked like Ostra was waiting for somthing like a shooting star or an abnormally bright twinkle, just something to tell him that this was the right decision. Yet nothing came, was he doomed from the very beginning? Maybe it was childish of him to search for signs of luck now when he was already days away from home. Ostra had this expectation that adjusting to this new and much more warm environment would be much easier, after all he had only heard tales from scholars back in Tamohn. It sounded so much simpler versus actually experiencing it.
But one of the many cultural shocks he faces was the lack of Valks thanks to the The Wall. Ostra had become pretty used to Valks spilling into Tamohn and different parts of the North in general but ever since he entered the Southern Reach he hasn’t seen much of any. Maybe that’s something he would be glad to get use to, if he plans on having an extended visit.
but hearing a feminine voice, Ostra looks over to see a woman greeting him. He couldn’t help but smile towards her. His… well, bulbous blue eyes seemed to beam right through this stranger “Yes, very much.” He was still working on his speech, yet his Greatling accent always shined through. He could already tell that other travelers might be resisting the urge to chuckle but this didn’t stop Ostra from continuing. Fixing his posture he spokes a bit louder now “It is for the Spire.” His words may be blunt but he had good intentions. But after realizing this habit only a minute later, he sheepishly looks away. He wasn’t sure why an older, most likely taller, woman intimated him so much. Maybe it was because she reminded him of his mother. A woman who took her role as leader very seriously, something he could aspire to be but never achieve.
