Read the following prompt:
The rhythmic lull of hoofbeats are a marching drum to the small group of pioneers and variety of folk you have found yourself amongst, packed into a wobbling wagon. The rolling plains of the Southern Reach and a clear sky stretch out all around you, the buzz of excited chatter a dull wash in your ears as your mind strays to your former life and what has led you here to new lands.
“Nervous?”
You blink, returning to the present moment. A kindly older woman sat near you is smiling warmly with a crinkle to her eyes.
“I can tell it’s your first time. Still remember mine,” she flashes a grin and leans in.
“Tell me my dear, why have you come to the Reach?”
How do you respond (in character)? Valentin, admittedly, hadn't expected much in the way of conversation on his journey through the Reach. The swamp was all he'd ever really known, and hesitance coated his voice just as much as his creole accent when he spoke. "Just passing through." The truth, though, was much less pleasant to hear- Among the pact, he'd never really had the most confidence. It was with the recent passing of his grandmother that he decided to take his leave from the area, and head towards hopefully better things. And perhaps the glint of grief in his eye caught the attention of the woman opposite of him- for her dialogue continued while expertly avoiding questions or mentions of the past, instead focusing solely on the future. What the Southern Reach has to offer, what to expect, the kinds of folk to meet...It was a peculiar feeling- the warmth of a welcome- in a tightly-packed carriage to an unfamiliar place. To better things.
