Gauntlet Reform Act Amendment Formerly, Any entry to the Guardkeep or holding areas without an appropriately logged message in #alert-the-guards may be considered invalid RP. If it for the sake of casual RP, this is still needed (just without a ping). If you will be doing dubious things such as breakouts, attacks, or inciting dissent, a ping and oversight from a guard is required.  Amended to, Any entry to the Guardkeep or holding areas without an appropriately logged message in #alert-the-guards may be considered invalid RP. If it for the sake of casual RP, this is still needed (just without a ping). If you will be doing dubious things such as breakouts, attacks, inciting dissent, passing along letters, or delivering threats (written or verbal), a ping and oversight from a guard is required.  Closed Fist Addition In-Character Explanation When the lich Idris laid waste to the Guard Keep so many months ago, the Gauntlet took notice. It wouldn’t happen again. And so, the Fist Closed, suffocating the reconstructed keep in a field of arcane countermeasures, preventing the casting of any magick. But magic has changed since then. It has grown stronger. The Closed Fist has grown tighter and tighter in grip, not to restrict magic more, but simply to maintain that same shield it first established. The cracks have begun to show, and so a pragmatic decision is made. The use of magic is strictly prohibited within the guard keep, unless for life-saving or medical purposes. Aside from those instances, the use of magic will result in punishment according to Magick Crimes, Section II: Unlawful Spellcasting. Punishment will depend on the severity of usage. Out-Of-Character Notes The guard keep is protected by an anti-magic force that surrounds the entirety of the building, colloquially named The Closed Fist. If investigated, it seems to be unique in nature - not Ether, not Cursesmithy, not Tellurgy, but instead some combination of all six disciplines of magic. This field originates from the Gauntlet’s pit deep underground, but this information is likely undiscovered. The field is governed by the following properties: No magic may pass through the field, in or out. Within the field, casting a spell takes twice the typical action cost. Spells that impart damage are dampened, doing half damage, rounded up. Spells with the intent to heal, stabilize, or revive an entity are cast without any penalty. Additionally, there are certain rules regarding the usage of magic within the guard keep: Detectable Magic: Guards are stationed in the cell area at all times: should a player (visitor or prisoner) intend to use detectable magic (visual, auditory, or other similar tells), they must arrange to have a DMed guard present. Undetectable Magic: Undetectable magic (spells like Whisper) may be used without a DM present, but if a spell results in something obvious - a visitor harmed, a prisoner passed some item - then it falls under Detectable Magic. Players must use common sense here.
