Character Name: Denali Finwick
Spoiler
Her name has been taken by a fey however, and when asked her name she either avoids answering, or is introduced as 'Everest'.
Desired Fable: Spirit of the Fire Dragon
What has your character done to qualify them for the fable / gather the attention of the fable?:
Spoiler
Denali has found purpose in fighting, an outlet she'd never truly dreamed of until arriving in the Spire. Her first introduction to combat was against a certain Second-Wind bear, to which not only had she held no hesitance in fighting, she'd even genuinely tried to wrestle it. Since then, it has been one thing after another, she's fought bandits on an attempt to breach Spire walls whilst the militia was away in battle, she's banished lingering aberrations by destroying their anchor items, she's gone on rescue missions both for good and bad, she's pursued knowledge of ill-doings and attempted to thwart them one by one as she goes - the list goes on. In all of her efforts to better situations around her, Denali has been built into the person she is today - a warrior through and through, even if she doesn't claim the title.
Whilst perhaps a sense of justice, of righteousness, would deign her towards another fable, she lacks both. Denali has only and will only fight for those she stands by, regardless of side they stand by or enemies they hold. One could call her a wild card from how many should be willing to face, if it meant defending what she believes or those she stands beside. As it stands currently, she is growing a distaste towards aberrations - one in particular souring every further kindling of sympathy for the like - the fey who has her name (The Salesman). With the ongoing shenanigans, she's been searching every inch from tide to sky for something that could turn the tides in her favor despite being someone who holds little belief for the weight of words. Thus, her research has led her to The Spirit of the Fire Dragon.
OOC Notes:
ICly, I'll be spending more time around the Dragon Shrines and engaging in more roleplay on pursuing knowledge of such. A fabled feat would absolutely be wonderful, but an interaction would be neat as well, whichever seems more on par!

In-Character
Read the following prompt:
The rhythmic lull of hoofbeats are a marching drum to the small group of pioneers and variety of folk you have found yourself amongst, packed into a wobbling wagon. The rolling plains of the Southern Reach and a clear sky stretch out all around you, the buzz of excited chatter a dull wash in your ears as your mind strays to your former life and what has led you here to new lands.
“Nervous?”
You blink, returning to the present moment. A kindly older woman sat near you is smiling warmly with a crinkle to her eyes.
“I can tell it’s your first time. Still remember mine,” she flashes a grin and leans in.
“Tell me my dear, why have you come to the Reach?”
How do you respond (in character)? (250 words minimum - please make sure to include at least three references to our lore in your response, with two coming from different pages in the Compendium. Two of the three selected should also be in-depth, avoid simply name-dropping lore terms. Tie the terms into your character's backstory. Why are they important to them?)

Theres an almost echoing silence after her words, that friendly tone drawing only a distrustful squint and a flat hum of what barely constitutes as acknowledgment. Despite his seemingly unwillingness to respond, the brunette lets out a soft sigh before turning his gaze back out towards the passing landscape. "... A lot, I suppose. Forgive me if I come across as rude, not my intention." His voice cracks a bit, as if from lack of use, and the sentence doesn't sound quite complete, yet the point gets across enough that her smile doesn't fade.
Instead, it seems to soften as if knowing more than had been said, and it's only met with another quick glance of doubt and a shrug as she still waits for further clarification. As if expecting him to spill his life story, like nothing more than gossip over the sound of hooves against soft ground and creaking wagon wheels. "Was raised in a caravan, a large one that traveled the Midlands most of the time." It's truthful, but not specific, and yet it still seems to be enough to spur her past waiting for more words.
"Oh how entertaining! From the Midlands, you say? Honestly, I don't know much from there, that's just north of here, right?" At that, the man nods, brief but confirming. "So are you Valkian, then? Last I'd heard, that was the most prominent group there-" This time her response is with a sharper tone as he interrupts her with a firm refusal.
"No. From further east. I claim no part of squabbling nobles and manipulative sales-folk. Fallstone, originally from the Steppe's." It seems as though the very idea of being anything other than a Falstoner had offended him, even if ever so slightly. Recognizing his snappish behavior when he sees her now slightly offended expression, he blinks and clears his throat before continuing. "That's- well. Part of the reason I'm here, now. the caravan was great, it certainly showed me much of what the Midlands had to offer, but... not much my taste." Another shrug, this time in fading interest in engaging the too-friendly woman. "Spent my life under the teachings of 'don't trust everything you see', you know?"
At that, any rightfully placed irritation at his behavior seemed to fade into a kind expression once again. "Ah, I see. If I remember correctly, Falstoners weren't very well off when it comes to interactions, huh? Something about being bothered by the Fey?" Her connection draws a grimace across his face, and another shrug. "That explains... well." She chuckles, and despite the tenseness in the travelers' posture, a tentative smile makes its way onto his face at her general gesture towards himself. "Well, then. Coming here for an escape? Or something of the sort?" Yet again, he nods, voice less sharp as words come easier.
"Indeed. A place to settle, hopefully. Would've gone back to the Steppe's, but- hm. I think I just would rather... turn a whole new leaf? Start on my own two feet and see what I can handle?" His whole life had been wrapped around the large family dynamic, the drama that came with it, the merging ideals and passed down lessons with no first-hand experience. He himself knows his outlook has been very skewed by the teachings of the people he knew, and the passing landscape feels like the possibility of new beginnings. If he can't even act kind to a lovely elderly stranger due to doubts of her behavior even being true, perhaps it's clear he made a good choice.
His uncertain sounding statement draws a soft chuckle from her, however, and a gentle nod. "Well that sounds wonderful, dear. A journey for self-improvement. It seems you have a bit of a way to go for that," She says in a slightly teasing manner that makes a flash of embarrassment settle across his expression, "but a journey can only be started by taking the first step. And here you are. I'd say it's a rather large first step, too." Her eyes glitter slightly in humor. Huffing a quiet laugh, his gaze trails back towards the passing wildlife, a sense of surety settling in his chest that had been missing.
"...Yeah, I suppose you are right."
Compendium References Include: Fallstone, Falstoners, Faded Steppe's, Midlands, Valkian/Valks.
Further Backstory details: (Everest likely in character wouldn't have shared any of these with an unknown stranger on a cart ride and felt as though they might be to note to explain his behavior a bit more.) Everest is in fact human, as were his parents who had hailed originally from the Faded Steppe's on their own farmed plot of land. Unfortunately, an illness had swept through while he was younger, claiming the lives of quite a few of the people in the area, including his parents. When a Falstoner Caravan had arrived in town bearing medicine from out of the area to assist, Everest began traveling with them after having nowhere else to go. In doing so, he was raised by many people, most of which being fey-touched and holding their own grudges and distrust towards the world, of which left a lasting impression upon his behavior.
Despite the traveling and all that came with the Falstoner culture, Everest wished to settle down, and over time grew to fester distaste in moving around so much, causing him to begin to dislike just about every aspect of the caravan life and the people that interacted with them (Which heavily included merchants, hence the aforementioned dislike). Of course, being raised in such an environment means there will always be a place held in his heart for them, but that constantly traveling lifestyle simply grew unsustainable for himself despite the years he spent attempting to force it into place.
