In-Character
Read the following prompt:
The rhythmic lull of hoofbeats are a marching drum to the small group of pioneers and variety of folk you have found yourself amongst, packed into a wobbling wagon. The rolling plains of the Southern Reach and a clear sky stretch out all around you, the buzz of excited chatter a dull wash in your ears as your mind strays to your former life and what has led you here to new lands.
“Nervous?”
You blink, returning to the present moment. A kindly older woman sat near you is smiling warmly with a crinkle to her eyes.
“I can tell it’s your first time. Still remember mine,” she flashes a grin and leans in.
“Tell me my dear, why have you come to the Reach?”
How do you respond (in character)? (150 words minimum - please make sure to include at least three references to our lore in your response, with two coming from different pages in the Compendium. Two of the three selected should also be in-depth, avoid simply name-dropping lore terms. Tie the terms into your character's backstory. Why are they important to them?)

It took Nerium a long moment to process she had spoken to him, a minute longer to think of what to say. There had been plenty tugging him towards the Reaches direction. A desire to find something more. More than the Faded Steppe, the small home his mother had raised him in. More than the quiet of the rolling fields and his late night studies knowing they'd all lead to dead ends (after all, there wasn't much to find staying in the same place forever was there?). Or maybe it was infomania getting to his head. He had always gotten ahead of himself in research, any little thing that interested him he just *had* to learn about. This was a different level of interest, one that led him into completely packing up his life and moving alongside the rest of the bustling crowd excited to explore new territory. For Nerium, it'd been a bit more personal. He was not there for a fresh start, rather the lost history of what had to be his. There was no other explanation. Nerium knew nothing of other Arsa Sidhe, only that his mother had gone to every extreme to keep him isolated from them. To protect him from the truth, that's what he'd decided on the moment The Aedall came up to him.
The Aedall. Even thinking the name left his lips perked and eyes lit up, excited at the thought of uncovering more of their otherwise lost culture. Even without, Nerium found himself with enough theories and not enough care towards how rude it was to talk a strangers ear off that he could ramble for hours without ever really coming to a point. Without any conclusion. The only one applicable was the common belief amongst other researchers that The Spire was a point of interest. The fact of it was that he knew nothing, not anymore than any other newcomer would. Not something he'd admit out loud though.
Speaking of out loud, Nerium took his eyes off the wooden frame he'd been watching past the heads of his fellow travelers and instead rested them on the woman who'd spoken to him. It'd been rude of him to ignore her, yet he felt zero social weight behind it. He wasn't exactly raised with courtesy nor was he very sociable anyways. Part of him was tempted to continue avoiding her at this point, she'd gone on waiting long enough.. The other half won over, deciding to grace her with a reply. "Well, it's a historical monument. I need to get there before lesser people demolish it." He hummed, like he'd been playing around. He wasn't.
"There are pertinent times to capture moments in the past. Preferably? In it." Though that ship had sailed with the passing of time, "Second best is right after it's ended. If I would've arrived any later, there'd be nothing left to explore. Doubted it'd be because others had already discovered it. More likely because they'd *ruin* it." His voice continued to rise until the final statement, vexed at even the thought of it. Still, that didn't mean he should be taking that out on her. "Apologies." Nerium continued, back to his regular speaking volume. "I'm just buzzing to get there." —
