Minecraft Username: Hawkkdarock
Are you at least 18 years old?: Yes
Have you read the rules? (Link): Yes(Optional) How did you hear about Avalore?: Was recommended by a close friend of mine!(Max. 1) Were you referred by someone? If so, please provide their in-game username: Faded2Fadbear
(Optional) Introduce yourself if you’d like, as well as any creations you want to share (e.g. art, builds, skins): Heyo I’m Hawk! I’m into a tonnnn of nerdy stuff, but I’ve especially been getting into D&D / medieval setting roleplays lately due to picking up a tabletop group irl! I enjoy character creation, especially creating groups / stories with my friends, but I’d say my biggest interest is reading and writing. (crazy fanfiction writer here o7) Anyways, I’m super excited to be here, since I know a few people who are already active in the server, plus I’m excited to integrate some of my characters into the lore!

In-Character
Read the following prompt:
The rhythmic lull of hoofbeats are a marching drum to the small group of pioneers and variety of folk you have found yourself amongst, packed into a wobbling wagon. The rolling plains of the Southern Reach and a clear sky stretch out all around you, the buzz of excited chatter a dull wash in your ears as your mind strays to your former life and what has led you here to new lands.
“Nervous?”
You blink, returning to the present moment. A kindly older woman sat near you is smiling warmly with a crinkle to her eyes.
“I can tell it’s your first time. Still remember mine,” she flashes a grin and leans in.
“Tell me my dear, why have you come to the Reach?”
How do you respond (in character)? (250 word minimum - please make sure to include at least three references to our lore in your response, with two coming from different pages in the Compendium. Two of the three selected should also be in-depth, avoid simply name-dropping lore terms. Tie the terms into your character's backstory. Why are they important to them?)Usage of AI to generate, modify or translate the writing on your application will result in denial of your whitelist. There will be no chance to re-apply afterwards.
Waeren’s armor gave a crunch with every rock of the wooden wagon, each especially hard roll over a loose stone resulting in the unsatisfying squeak that came from the forced rubbing of thickened leather against itself. In the otherwise silent atmosphere, with an even quieter audience, she could feel the attention being drawn to her form.
Giving a single deep sigh, she flicked her eyes quickly to the individuals around her. Whatever, better they know she has armor than to assume she doesn’t. She didn’t often attend places unprotected.
That was one thing Waeren could appreciate about her kind, that if she was going to be stigmatized, then at least it would be under the stereotype that she was strong, with practically impenetrable skin and an even more daunting stature - someone not to mess with, lest they invoke the ‘beast’ within her.
She couldn’t help herself from scoffing at her own thoughts. What idiots some people really were… Despite it all though, Waeren didn’t let a lot of opinions weigh on her mind. Everyone was going to think what they wanted, and there was nothing she could do to change those stuck in their closed-minded ways. Why would she worry herself about something so steadfast? Unless, of course, it was made into a problem for her.
At the sound of an older woman’s voice, Waeren quickly blinked out of her thoughts.
Despite her general gruffness towards strangers, she couldn’t convince herself to be so cold to such a friendly appearing traveler. It wouldn’t feel right to respond so cruelly to someone offering her such a warm smile.
“I’m headed to-” Waeren began to point slightly in front of her, the metal coating her forearms clanking as she guesstimated the general location of The Spire from their wagon’s current path.
“For work. Mercenary work,” She finished vaguely, only adding as much clarification as she felt was necessary.
While The Spire was technically her destination, it wasn’t actually an important part of her journey. She could end up, well, anywhere really, as long as there was work for her to take. Sirensong of the Mist Isles had always grabbed her attention, and she’d like to see Ko’ram, although maybe just from the outside, considering what she’d heard of their political state. The Spire, however, had ended up being the most sensible location for her, and considering it was her first time leaving The Amafells in her entire life, she was glad it was too.
That offered its own unique challenges though, emotional ones that Waeren was left tussling with in her own head. It was hard to leave everything she had known behind; her tribe, their mountains. Hell, she had already begun sweating the second she felt the climate shift to something more temperate compared to the harsh tundra winds she was used to.
Being somewhere new felt a lot less exciting and a lot more dreadful to her than she thought it should. What it really felt like, was abandonment, the fleeing skuttle of a scared little mouse that only worried for its own safety.
Waeren had left her family - or what little she had left - and all of their teachings. For what, because she couldn’t see her destiny written in the stars as clearly as every other tribe member seemed to? As she sat knocking about into the wooden seats, she only became more convinced she had made a mistake. How could she expect to make it in a place that didn’t understand her culture, her language, the isolated ways of the Stonerunners?
No, she shook her head sharply. She couldn’t think that way - let herself doubt her decision when she had worked so hard to get away from everything she had grown used to. She was going to find herself, her personhood, it was just unfortunate that it took embracing something new, in all its terrifying glory, to find it.

Character Name: Waeren Fore (way-ren four)
Character Race: Greatling
Character Age: 32 Years
Brief Physical Description: A dark-skinned Greatling woman with ivory-colored hair that is always kept pulled back for tactical reasons. Clad in thick leather armor, trained in the athletic ways of her Stonerunner ancestors, and towering at 8’0 feet, Waeren portrays every part of the successful mercenary she claims to be. Curiously, black spiked shapes are tattooed across her eyes, which she will either tell you represent stars or Suns respectively depending on the day - yes, there is a distinction and it’s important to her that it’s known.
