In-Character
Read the following prompt:
The rhythmic lull of hoofbeats are a marching drum to the small group of pioneers and variety of folk you have found yourself amongst, packed into a wobbling wagon. The rolling plains of the Southern Reach and a clear sky stretch out all around you, the buzz of excited chatter a dull wash in your ears as your mind strays to your former life and what has led you here to new lands.
âNervous?â
You blink, returning to the present moment. A kindly older woman sat near you is smiling warmly with a crinkle to her eyes.
âI can tell itâs your first time. Still remember mine,â she flashes a grin and leans in.
âTell me my dear, why have you come to the Reach?â
How do you respond (in character)? (250 word minimum - please make sure to include at least three references to our lore in your response, with two coming from different pages in the Compendium.  Two of the three selected should also be in-depth, avoid simply name-dropping lore terms. Tie the terms into your character's backstory. Why are they important to them?)
----------------------------------------She had never been a stranger to plains and the endless stretch of green fields. It was a view she was all to familiar with, having spent much of her life in Falstoner. That verdant sea and lull of the carrying cart was all that was needed for the focus of her yellow, pupilless eyes, to drift. And for a moment that seemed like hours, her mind flicked back to those days as though her time in Falstoner was centuries away despite only having been a few weeks distant. Her hands tightened around her biceps, fingers digging into the skin to ground her. She shut her eyes and let those distant memories swim behind her eyelids. A mother, bent on living out her days of monster hunting and glory, only to be left disfigured and wallowing in her grief of a previous life. A father, diligent and kind, tending to his love with eyes as boundless as the sun. Both giving her all they could and with hearts as open as the skies, though pushing a life style she dare not follow. Not of HER volition... no. Rosalie would forge her own life with her own hands. She wouldn't be thrust into the empty shoes of ones past glory, the shadow her mother cast far to large and too oddly shaped to match her own. That was why this fall was her last in Falstoner. This idea, this driven desire of independence, of self actualization, was whispered into her paper lantern and gently offered to the heavens. It was the start of her promise to herself. Her eyes snapped open as a voice called to her, so close yet.. warm. The young woman jolted, her thoughts ripped away as reality came flooding back in. She wasn't in the past, not anymore, nor could she be. Her eyes shifted to the older woman, confusion at first nestled on her face but after yet another passing moment she relaxed. A similar smile was offered to the woman, a mixture of well practiced manners instilled in her by home and a genuine kindness that lingered in Rosalie's heart. "Oh- well.." her voice was soft, as gentle as a brook bubbling against riverstone. "I suppose, for something fresh! A new life.." She chuckled softly, her eyes flicking away from the woman to settle once more on the rolling plains of the reach. Her smile crinkled on the corners, softening. She never was the best with strangers, let alone strangers that spoke to her first. It was exhausting. Nerve wrecking. What if she said the wrong thing? With a soft inhale she shook her head, clearing those pesky thoughts as soon as they cropped up. "For something... mine." She paused before chuckling yet again and facing the woman once more. "I'm sorry, my nervousness is bothersome, isn't it? What of you, Oma? You say this is not your first time? Could you.. tell me more about the reach? Maybe the spire itself? I'd appreciate any insight, especially from a seasoned traveler."
there was a faint pause, as if Rosalie was waiting for the woman to speak but before anything could be uttered Rosalie continued on. Babbling like a nervous school child
âI hope there arenât any Grumpkins in the area..â
she followed such a strange confession with a nervous chuckle. Perhaps it was an odd thing to say, but in her mind it was quite founded. A small memory pricked at the edges of her mind. Foggy on the edges but vivid enough to pick up the screams of sheer terror that left her lips at the tender age of 5 as a small swarm of grumpkins mischievously chased her through her fatherâs fields. In the moment, she felt nothing but fear as the odd creatures with no faces and all too large vines snapped at her heels; playing a game of tag no doubt but to such a young child.. a nightmare. Even now, despite the lens of adulthood giving some light of humor to such a memory, that discomfort would never go away. And even to this day the mere sight of a pumpkin made her uneasy. She swallowed hard and waved a hand absentmindedly, a small bead of sweat trailing down her cheekÂ
âactually- donât tell me. Itâs better I donât know at all.âÂ
