In-CharacterRead the following prompt:
The rhythmic lull of hoofbeats are a marching drum to the small group of pioneers and variety of folk you have found yourself amongst, packed into a wobbling wagon. The rolling plains of the Southern Reach and a clear sky stretch out all around you, the buzz of excited chatter a dull wash in your ears as your mind strays to your former life and what has led you here to new lands.
“Nervous?”
You blink, returning to the present moment. A kindly older woman sat near you is smiling warmly with a crinkle to her eyes.
“I can tell it’s your first time. Still remember mine,” she flashes a grin and leans in.
“Tell me my dear, why have you come to the Reach?”
How do you respond (in character)? (250 word minimum - please make sure to include at least three references to our lore in your response, with two coming from different pages in the Compendium. Two of the three selected should also be in-depth, avoid simply name-dropping lore terms. Tie the terms into your character's backstory. Why are they important to them?)
Aurora remained quiet for a moment, thinking, eyes downcast and head low. Her ears seemed to twitch, attempting to catch every sound possible. She then looked up at the woman, her blue eyes shimmering. “I… uh, well… that’s a long story. My parents said that I should explore and go to the town surrounding The Spire for something. They didn’t specify or say anything more, other than I had to go to a weaponsmith. They didn't tell me their name, either. My parents just told me that I would know when I got there,”
She sighed, looking out at the horizon. “My parents always said that The Spire appeared after the Aedall disappeared. I’m curious if that’s true or not. And also... why can't The Spire be broken? I heard it was enchanted, but I wonder why.” Aurora reached up to her neck, slipping off a necklace and staring at it. “I’m confused. I don’t understand where I am or- or anything! Father says that the Council of the Spire are just... oh, what he call them? I don't remember, but in short, they're bad people. He never elaborated or said anything more.”
The girl looked back at the woman. “Are… are other creatures out there? My mother always told me there were, but that we shouldn’t worry. I come from The North. My parents are farmers. We live on the outskirts of one of the cities. I... I wonder why everybody there seems to divided. It makes no sense.”
Aurora lowered her head, her body shivering, not from cold, but from just how scared she was. “I wonder what my family is doing. I hope they’re okay. They always tell me stories of The Collapse. I wonder… what really happened back then? Who was in the right? Who was wrong? Why did Humans riot? What was so horrible that they felt they should? Hm... maybe my parents left something out, or forgot. Or maybe all of it's just lies.”
She looked up at the woman and looked down. “Sorry, I’m rambling. I enjoy learning about history and stories.” Aurora muttered, blushing at how she couldn’t seem to stop talking. She looked back out at the horizon and leaned back, eyes closing. She was exhausted.
