In-Character
Read the following prompt:
The rhythmic lull of hoofbeats are a marching drum to the small group of pioneers and variety of folk you have found yourself amongst, packed into a wobbling wagon. The rolling plains of the Southern Reach and a clear sky stretch out all around you, the buzz of excited chatter a dull wash in your ears as your mind strays to your former life and what has led you here to new lands.
“Nervous?”
You blink, returning to the present moment. A kindly older woman sat near you is smiling warmly with a crinkle to her eyes.
“I can tell it’s your first time. Still remember mine,” she flashes a grin and leans in.
“Tell me my dear, why have you come to the Reach?”
How do you respond (in character)? (250 word minimum - please make sure to include at least three references to our lore in your response, with two coming from different pages in the Compendium. Two of the three selected should also be in-depth, avoid simply name-dropping lore terms. Tie the terms into your character's backstory. Why are they important to them?)
Thieva took a moment to respond, trying to find her voice after a few days of not having to use it. It wasn't often anybody sparked up a conversation with a dirty, stinky, and barefoot fey-touched child. Not to mention who didn't seem to have any guardian or parent anywhere. The old lady was right that she was going to the Reach, but she was wrong thinking it was Thieva's first time there. She never stayed very long, preferring the brisk and isolating surroundings of the Amefells. That was a place she could call home. Ever since Thieva woke up in an alleyway in the Spire with little to no memory, she had a distaste for the repurposed town. Amefells was a breath of fresh air, although there was less of it. The Greatlings that lived there couldn't reach her in her hiding spot or what I would call; home...That is if they ever found her, so it was probably the safest place for Thieva.
"Looking for my mom," Thieva told the old lady simply, which was a lie. It was a good lie though, someone who looked lost like her would surely be looking for a mother that had misplaced their child. Thieva had no idea who my mother or father was and she didn't care to know because if they let her to rot in an alleyway to fend for herself, why should she look for them? The only reason Thieva was on this wagon was because of the loot. People often got on one of these wagons in hope to find a new home, so that meant they had their pockets full most of the time. Thieva had already taken the leather pouch full of coins from the human to her left when he fell asleep to the rhythmic beat of the hoofs up front.
Speaking of her latest snatch, she tapped on the bench twice, waiting for a response from my companion. One faint thud told Thieva he had not found anything. Her companion was named Thumb and he was a Muisi. She named him Thumb because he looked like one, even though she realized shortly after that most Muisi do. Thieva met him first not long after she fled the Spire the first time, he offered her food and water and in return Thieva helped him build a shovel he had a hard time figuring out. Ever since then they've been best friends, though she does worry about him when he visits her in the cold of the Amefells but he seems to be okay, after all it is only for special occasions (Like their bi-yearly feast). What Thieva really should be worried about is what Thumb does to her. It wont be long before the constant visits from the small creature catch up to her. While he never stays long enough to make Thieva bed-ridden, she does end up feeling winded and even though she tries to get him to stay, he never does.
