In-Character
Read the following prompt:
The rhythmic lull of hoofbeats are a marching drum to the small group of pioneers and variety of folk you have found yourself amongst, packed into a wobbling wagon. The rolling plains of the Southern Reach and a clear sky stretch out all around you, the buzz of excited chatter a dull wash in your ears as your mind strays to your former life and what has led you here to new lands.
“Nervous?”
You blink, returning to the present moment. A kindly older woman sat near you is smiling warmly with a crinkle to her eyes.
“I can tell it’s your first time. Still remember mine,” she flashes a grin and leans in.
“Tell me my dear, why have you come to the Reach?”
How do you respond (in character)? (250 word minimum - please make sure to include at least three references to our lore in your response, with two coming from different pages in the Compendium. Two of the three selected should also be in-depth, avoid simply name-dropping lore terms. Tie the terms into your character's backstory. Why are they important to them?)
I would stare at my hands for a couple seconds before clutching them as I let out a sigh. I was exhausted from this question but it seems I was not going to escape it no matter how hard I tried. A part of me wanted to forget about the fact I lost my memory, but that does not seem to be the mature thing to do. I should accept it instead as a normal person.
"I-...I am searching for a new life. A life far from what happened to me... I am merely trying to get another shot at life. It's almost as if fate brought me here. You see, I am an Arsa Sidhe or Elf as Humans call it. My village was burnt down by unknown bandits... They slaughtered all my people and only I remain."
The woman looked at me with great sorrow as she sighed and started speaking to me.
"I am sorry for your loss..."
I simply shook my head and continued talking as I gave a weakened smile.
"N-No... It's fine. Things like this happen... I was told I could find my people here, new kin. And I have decided to make the journey for that purpose. After all... I know that some of my kin that used to follow an unknown culture used to guard the Southern Reach. I know about their disappearance but nothing beyond that as most folk. A part of me wants to learn more about it... But I suppose a part of me just arrived here to find new family, new life and all that."
The older woman looked at me with a soft smile although a bit saddened as she spoke out.
"I see... Even though you went through all these things you are still going strong. That is very respectable..."
I could not help but give a soft smile back. I was never complimented by anyone outside of my kin like this. It felt... nice. I felt as if I have value to do what I wish to do. I would then respond:
"Thank you... And yes. Well, my plan is to gain supplies from here to then make a journey over to Ko'ram where most of my kin reside in from what I was told by a traveler. Ah... The Land of the Shining Sea, I look forward to reaching that place and meeting my kin. I was told there are groups inside Ko'ram designated as the Great Clans. I suppose I will attempt to join one of these if possible, if not, then I shall be a citizen more. I also look forward to joining Korami, I want to be a strong mage you see. I want to prove my worth and be remembered down in the books of history. If my die must come to an end then I hope I can rebirth into a great warrior."
The woman couldn't help but giggle at what I said. I looked at her confused as she then explained herself.
"Ah, sorry. It is just that you have such enthusiasm. I wish I could be as determined as you, my dear. I truly hope you can find what you are looking for in Ko'ram then and reunite with your people."
I nodded happily as I smiled and continued.
"Yes. I am hoping so too. I still have to consider which clan to join but we shall see. Oh! Looks like our stop is here. Thank you for everything, ma'am. May our paths cross again."
I get off the cart as I inspect the area around me and prepare myself for adventure. I will prove my worth and I will become a great mage willing to help those who need assistance. That is my sworn duty, a duty I imposed on myself and I shall do it no matter the cost. No cost too great in order to help everyone and be remembered.
