In-Character
Read the following prompt:
The rhythmic lull of hoofbeats are a marching drum to the small group of pioneers and variety of folk you have found yourself amongst, packed into a wobbling wagon. The rolling plains of the Southern Reach and a clear sky stretch out all around you, the buzz of excited chatter a dull wash in your ears as your mind strays to your former life and what has led you here to new lands.
“Nervous?”
You blink, returning to the present moment. A kindly older woman sat near you is smiling warmly with a crinkle to her eyes.
“I can tell it’s your first time. Still remember mine,” she flashes a grin and leans in.
“Tell me my dear, why have you come to the Reach?”
How do you respond (in character)? (250 word minimum - please make sure to include at least three references to our lore in your response, with two coming from different pages in the Compendium. Two of the three selected should also be in-depth, avoid simply name-dropping lore terms. Tie the terms into your character's backstory. Why are they important to them?)
With a calm, and tallied expression, the woman paused her ministrations, toiling away at her leather shoulder bag, trying her best to remedy a rip in the fabric. She didn’t own many objects, and didn't see the need to. Nothing but another change of clothes, and materials for her favored crafts; painting, and collecting trinkets of a magnitude of uses- including those just fun to look at as they twinkled in the light. She held herself with a guarded politeness, however didn’t offer the older woman any whisper of a smile in her greeting. Only a nod, an acceptance of her sudden presence. The only other indicator of emotion from her was a soft, amused huff. “Nervous? I haven’t felt nervous in quite a long time.”Moffi settled her hands onto her lap, looking up and away, off into the horizon of grass and wild-flowers which mimicked the calming waves of the ocean. The breeze was delightfully warm, smelling of passed rainfall and burning lumber as some of the travellers decided to settle, cooking foods over fire.“Nothing brings me here; which is precisely the point. I am looking for something, a divine purpose. Otherwise, what use is there in being alive? Perhaps the Valks; where I could trade my art-” She stopped herself, looking over at the elderly woman with a brow slowly raised. To witness the almost expectant look on her withered face; Moffi didn’t know why she was sharing any of this. But she suspected this woman was used to listening. She sighed again, continuing. “I may be welcome in Fallstone, but - I am not looking for what I am used to. For comfort bores me greatly. Is it true, I wonder, that there are giants. People of so many sorts; so many things to learn, to find excitement within. To find true meaning. Perhaps, I came for this. Here.” She moved, taking out a sheet of paper from her bag, passing it to the elderly woman, covering her hand kindly. It was a piece of hers, a simple sketch composed of many strange faces. “Have this. Some day, I will do great things. And if I do not, I will die a great death. Either way, perhaps it will be worth something to you. If not, then it was not meant to be.”
