Read the following prompt:
The rhythmic lull of hoofbeats are a marching drum to the small group of pioneers and variety of folk you have found yourself amongst, packed into a wobbling wagon. The rolling plains of the Southern Reach and a clear sky stretch out all around you, the buzz of excited chatter a dull wash in your ears as your mind strays to your former life and what has led you here to new lands.
“Nervous?”
You blink, returning to the present moment. A kindly older woman sat near you is smiling warmly with a crinkle to her eyes.
“I can tell it’s your first time. Still remember mine,” she flashes a grin and leans in.
“Tell me my dear, why have you come to the Reach?”
How do you respond (in character)? (150 words minimum - please make sure to include some references to our lore in your response!)
“A purpose.” The man merely says as he watched on as the wagon wobbled and justled along.
The old woman's grin slowly faded as she knitted her brows together staring at the young man. “What ever do you mean?” She asked after a couple of beats.
Quoros finally turned to the woman, his eyes steady and his face rather blank of expression. “A purpose.” He repeated, “A purpose is important to people, yes?” He looked down to his fingers which interlock with each other in his lap. “I do not believe I have ever had a purpose…least not on my own.” He looked back up to her.
“I have lived my life so far simply burrowing into other’s means of a purpose, that I believe I’ve forgotten how to find one for myself.” He continued, “I come from a people who are constantly on the move, they never quite stay in one place for too long.” He gave a short smile reminiscing on the always on the go Falstoner community he considered his home. "It is hard to find a purpose when you never stay too long in a place to make anything of it or the people within."
He pushes back a couple locs of hair to reveal rounded ears. “My own heritage is one with purpose which has been lost, I believe my Arsa Sidhe mother forgot herself when she coupled with my father and that is why she left to find her purpose, whatever it may be…she was always so in love with the Aedall way of life, so isolated even in a room filled with people.” He sighed. "I heard whispers amongst my folk about the Reach, though I do not often pay attention to such gossips, it struck me as something fresh and new..."
The old woman's look of perplexion slowly begun to fade but it was still etched there in the look of her eyes and the twist of her mouth, Quoros felt as though he had a need for her to understand his plight.
“What I suppose I’m trying to say is, if I do not find a purpose I am simply living to live until I draw my last breath, do you not think?” Whether the old woman or Quoros knows it they both turned almost completely to each other on their rickety wooden seats as if lost in the one sided conversation, and the only thought that came to the woman's mind as she stared into the man’s red red eyes was ‘Odd.’
"Now, if you would not mind I find I would really like to know about your first time in the Far Reach?"
