[!]Near the town square and the sparring pit, Drenmir's old home has a new occupant - the blinds are quickly drawn shut, however. A glow seems to shift from shuttered window to window at times, and yet a silhouette is never cast upon the curtains.

Hi eema! Sorry for this - I edited my response to have more of a distinction between the North and the Valkian Realms. My goal was to have Petal land in the North and then travel down and briefly settle in the Valkian Realms, hopefully that reads more clearly now!

In-Character
Read the following prompt:
The rhythmic lull of hoofbeats are a marching drum to the small group of pioneers and variety of folk you have found yourself amongst, packed into a wobbling wagon. The rolling plains of the Southern Reach and a clear sky stretch out all around you, the buzz of excited chatter a dull wash in your ears as your mind strays to your former life and what has led you here to new lands.
“Nervous?”
You blink, returning to the present moment. A kindly older woman sat near you is smiling warmly with a crinkle to her eyes.
“I can tell it’s your first time. Still remember mine,” she flashes a grin and leans in.
“Tell me my dear, why have you come to the Reach?”
How do you respond (in character)? (250 word minimum - please make sure to include at least three references to our lore in your response, with two coming from different pages in the Compendium. Two of the three selected should also be in-depth, avoid simply name-dropping lore terms. Tie the terms into your character's backstory. Why are they important to them?)
Petal hesitated a moment, glancing down at their glove-covered hands, gently squeezing one in the other. Why they'd come to the Reach? That was a story of its own, one that'd take longer than a wagon ride to explain in full. It'd hardly be proper to share such details with a stranger, either - even though it'd been asked with keen curiosity, folk often asked such questions out of courtesy, rather than seeking a true answer. How would they even explain such a thing?
Perhaps they'd start with when they'd been told to leave their clan at age eighteen. It'd always been awkward, growing up among the Fireborne despite having the flowing feathers and serene grace of the nearby Mountain Fey-Blessed. The leaders of the clan had disapproved of their mother's tryst with a male of the Mountain tribe, and yet she'd continued, until it'd finally resulted in their birth. Their mother had always pleaded for acceptance for her one and only child - and yet, the elders always claimed it was an irrevocable act to taint the pure blood the clan had carried for generations, the blood which came from the spirit of the Fire Dragon themselves. She'd been forced out earlier than Petal, having only spared her young child the dangerous journey across the Fireborne's territory by begging and finally bartering her own departure.
Presumably, she'd found Petal's father out there in the flowery hills past the ash and smoke. Looking for her was the first thing on Petal's mind when their tribe had banished them at last, but unfortunately, they'd never been able to find their parents. They'd found themselves crossing into The North eventually, managing to barter passage on a ship by serving as a tailor, mending sails and clothing for the crew aboard. They might've found a home there, if not for never managing to find their sea legs, and ending up quite sick for the entire journey. They took the first port into The North, continuing to travel and drift downwards from the northern reaches of the continent. After some time, they did manage to reach the Valkian Realm, quickly able to blend in with the high society and ruling class of the royalty within. Drifting like the breeze between various courts, often bringing messages, or sharing important tidings of the ever-changing politics around them.
That too, was cut short in time, as Petal found themselves fleeing a petty dispute between princes turned violent. They'd longed for something more than the cobbled streets found there, at least, so it wasn't the worst to happen to them. Their Mountain bloodline called them to return to the wildflowers and rolling fields, which they had a great deal of as they drifted down throughout the continent. It wasn't an easy journey, at times, with perhaps a touch too much adventure to be had. Still, they picked up useful skills along the way, learning things that their childhood within the violence of their Fireborne clan could've never taught them. Instead of how to fight, they learned when to fight, and how to slip by and avoid fighting altogether. They even dabbled in various crafts along the way, although their greatest skill was always spinning, dyeing, and weaving wool they found along their journey. Not a particularly wealthy profession, of course, but it was one that brought them comfort even in times of great change.
Somehow, someway, they'd ended up on this wagon, bringing them to the Southern Reach. A new land they'd heard whispers of, rumors swirling about in regards to the Great Disappearance, centered around the towering Spire that'd emerged on the edge of the former Aedall's territory. Even if slightly hesitant at times, Petal had no aversion towards adventure, and their travels hadn't exactly left them ill-prepared. They could hold their own even against taller opponents, flee from nimble monsters, and escape dire political situations. What more could they need to survive in this new land?
Oh! But they'd been asked a question, hadn't they? By the sweet old woman? There wasn't an exact reason why they'd come here, not one they knew of, at least. They'd love to find their family, although it had to be rather terrible odds to discover them here, in such a distant land. Perhaps to learn more about themselves? Not that they enjoyed dwelling on the thought, that tended to lead into the uncomfortable shame of their failure to the Fireborne, or how they'd failed to fit in elsewhere during their life.Petal quickly shook themselves a bit, thinking for a moment more before smiling up at the old woman. "You must have a better story than me, yes? I'd love to hear why you came here, if you'd be alright sharing." They replied with a warm, genuine smile, effortlessly dodging the question by posing their own. It worked fairly often to redirect such things by instead letting someone speak about themselves - most people were happy to do so, after all. Folding their hands in their lap, they glanced past the woman, gazing curiously onto the surroundings of the Reach as she dove into her own tale. Character Name: Petal
Character Race: Fey-Touched, 50% Mountain and 50% Volcanic (Fireborne)
Character Age: 21
Brief Physical Description: Petal (any/all pronouns) is an oddity, even among the Fey-Blessed. Standing at four foot five and light in frame, they look as though a strong wind might blow them away, although they're sturdier than they appear. At a glance, one would assume they were from the Mountains, with their pink and green feathers coating their arms - however, a glance at their rose-pink scales below reveals what makes them unique. With their father being from the Mountains and their mother a Fireborne, they inherited traits from both, including feathers, scales, and char-tipped fingers that they shamefully hide below gloves. Finally, they have flowing strawberry-hued hair (dyed of course, to conceal the natural grey of their Fireborne heritage) and bright, solid green eyes, courtesy of their fey origins!Typically, they dress rather feminine, which combined with their long hair makes it rather difficult to tell their true gender. They do take some joy in this, simply shrugging it off whenever the question is asked.
