In-Character
Read the following prompt:
The rhythmic lull of hoofbeats are a marching drum to the small group of pioneers and variety of folk you have found yourself amongst, packed into a wobbling wagon. The rolling plains of the Southern Reach and a clear sky stretch out all around you, the buzz of excited chatter a dull wash in your ears as your mind strays to your former life and what has led you here to new lands.
“Nervous?”
You blink, returning to the present moment. A kindly older woman sat near you is smiling warmly with a crinkle to her eyes.
“I can tell it’s your first time. Still remember mine,” she flashes a grin and leans in.
“Tell me my dear, why have you come to the Reach?”
How do you respond (in character)? (150 words minimum - please make sure to include at least three references to our lore in your response, with two coming from different pages in the Compendium. Two of the three selected should also be in-depth, avoid simply name-dropping lore terms. Tie the terms into your character's backstory. Why are they important to them?)
Intense eyes softened nigh immediately once the man heard the voice calling out to him. Turning his head, Maris gave the woman a soft smile that falters ever so slightly at the question. Nevertheless, he searches his mind for his rehearsed answer- he had plenty of time to practice on his boat.“M’life is for adventure, ma’am.” The sentence seemed a little…short. Not to worry, it seems like he realized that not long after and shook his head some. “Ha-! Sorry, I didn’t explain. M’from the Mist Isles- it’s tradition where I’m from to decide to either remain there on the ‘lands or, y’know, decide if your life’s for adventure.” Another smile was flashed- it seems Maris is pretty proud of his choice. Leaning further against the planks of the wagon he rode in with some regard for others’ personal space, the man let out a little sigh. “Y’can’t go back unless you’ve got somethin’ good to tell folks anyhow, but that works out just fine for me. I got me some plans.”
His eyes tilt upwards to the sky, briefly making note of the stars. He won’t kid himself, doesn’t remember any of the constellations but his own, Ouroboros…something about never ending cycles, a serpent, maybe- despite having been told about them many times before. He didn’t believe in that kind of stuff, but that didn’t matter, wasn’t he having a conversation?
“Plus, I’d have a lot harder of a time doin’ all my research on them islands. I-I guess it’s cliche or something, but I’m real curious on what happened to the Aedall. I figured, if I could solve that whole mystery-whatever on The Great Disappearance then m’people would be real proud of me, right ma’am?” His mind drifted once again, seems to be a habit for him, with fingers picking idly at scaled hands as he thought. What could have possibly happened for a whole group of people to disappear in such a way? With not a trace left behind and so little known about them…Maris is set on discovering all there is and more. He has to. And once he’s done, he’ll have all the recognition he deserved and a good story to share with his friends and family back home.
“Yeah. Real proud.”

Character Name: Skua-Maris Adelwarren
Character Race: Fey-touched
Character Age: 24
Brief Physical Description: Maris stands at 5’9, with light brown skin and long brown hair that is often pinned up into a hasty bun. His face is akin to a rounded square, with an equally round nose and set of eyes- solid-colored eyes so dark they could be considered black. Upon his cheeks, arms, and legs lay shimmery teal scales that glimmer when caught just right by the sun. On his left cheek is the tail end of a long scar with peculiar origin and pattern.
