In-Character
Read the following prompt:
The rhythmic lull of hoofbeats are a marching drum to the small group of pioneers and variety of folk you have found yourself amongst, packed into a wobbling wagon. The rolling plains of the Southern Reach and a clear sky stretch out all around you, the buzz of excited chatter a dull wash in your ears as your mind strays to your former life and what has led you here to new lands.
“Nervous?”
You blink, returning to the present moment. A kindly older woman sat near you is smiling warmly with a crinkle to her eyes.
“I can tell it’s your first time. Still remember mine,” she flashes a grin and leans in.
“Tell me my dear, why have you come to the Reach?”
How do you respond (in character)? (150 words minimum)
— Snapped out of a rare mental respite, Sybil takes a moment to register the question. She was lost in the woman's face, so similar on paper but you could never assume the two of them to be related. Sybil knew that even if her body was entirely concealed and hidden away, her solid maroon eyes would always give her away as something entirely different. Wrong. Inhuman. The woman's face was much more gaunt and proportional for someone of her age, where Sybil felt her rounder features were uncanny in comparison, despite being younger. She was taller and much thinner than the woman, no doubt weighing less than her, yet her face was perfectly full. Despite this, the woman's gaze was still full of such warmth and compassion that Sybil was taken aback. Not wanting to waste anymore of the kind woman's time in silence, she finally responded.
"I figured things would be better here than where I came from." Anything was better than those who awaited her north of The Wall, she thought. "This place seemed perfect for a fresh start, and a fresh start is exactly what I want."
She paused for a moment, contemplating how much she should really be telling this woman she doesn't know. Despite her worries, she appreciated the woman's curiosity in her.
She faintly smiled, truly valuing such a small act of kindness from this stranger. It was a boon she has rarely received, and one she cherished. "Thank you for speaking to me. Or, with me. You're very kind." Not wanting to use any more of this gracious woman's time on herself, she turned her body to face the passing landscape. The rolling, repetitiveness of the hills were soothing to her mind, slowly returning her to her thoughts.
Character Race: Fey-Touched
Character Age: 22
Brief Physical Description: Deep maroon eyes and olive skin on a tall, underfed frame. Her short, butchered brown hair offers little concealment of the bark and ivy crawling across her body. Even with her decrepit, tattered wrappings encasing her body, signs of plant-life still poke through the cracks (despite her dismay).
