The rhythmic lull of hoofbeats are a marching drum to the small group of pioneers and variety of folk you have found yourself amongst, packed into a wobbling wagon. The rolling plains of the Southern Reach and a clear sky stretch out all around you, the buzz of excited chatter a dull wash in your ears as your mind strays to your former life and what has led you here to new lands.
“Nervous?”
You blink, returning to the present moment. A kindly older woman sat near you is smiling warmly with a crinkle to her eyes.
“I can tell it’s your first time. Still remember mine,” she flashes a grin and leans in.
“Tell me my dear, why have you come to the Reach?”

"You think I won't spark ye' out for shovin' your nose in my business just because you're old?" The man gruffed in her direction, tucking himself further into his over-coat that was just barely masking him from the torrential downpour. "But, I'll entertain you. Marionsport is not what it was. Every whaler worth his salt already has a large ship and crew, drives out the small dogs like myself, leaves me hungry."
"With a ship too small for ta' whales, and too big for shallow-fishing, I did what any lad who needed ta' put food on the table would. Smuggling. Kraken's Keep to Myo, Mariza ta' Shokyu, there's not a port on this plain of existence I've not defiled or insulted with my wares. Tariffs, trade standards, legality, they become but words ta' me. Better men have tried ta' hang me, and better men can no longer think twice." he uttered with a dry cough as he smiled to himself.
"But me?" he asked, peering to the woman, who hopefully due to this being a whitelist application won't report Cillian to the guard force for what he's about to say. "Democratic councils, militia guardforces? This city is ripe for the pickin', a smugglers abode. I want to set up shop here, lass. Where the whaler's ships won't overshadow me, and where there's plenty of fish ta' be caught."
