The rhythmic lull of hoofbeats are a marching drum to the small group of pioneers and variety of folk you have found yourself amongst, packed into a wobbling wagon. The rolling plains of the Southern Reach and a clear sky stretch out all around you, the buzz of excited chatter a dull wash in your ears as your mind strays to your former life and what has led you here to new lands.
“Nervous?”
You blink, returning to the present moment. A kindly older woman sat near you is smiling warmly with a crinkle to her eyes.
“I can tell it’s your first time. Still remember mine,” she flashes a grin and leans in.
“Tell me my dear, why have you come to the Reach?”

I have come to the reach in search of a purpose. I still don’t know what it is, only that it calls to me from some vast, shadowed place beyond the edges of understanding. A pull, quiet but insistent, rising from within me like a tide. I can’t name it. I can’t explain it. But I know it’s real. And I know it’s mine.
It was a friend who awakened this longing,a traveler, an Arsa Sidhe. She moved like moonlight on still water, her presence quiet but impossible to ignore. Her eyes held centuries, her laughter the sound of wind dancing through old trees. There was something otherworldly about her, something that didn’t belong to time or place. With fire in her spirit and dust on her boots, she carried stories like others carried weapons.
She spoke of the world beyond the mountains, of salt-wind and starfall, of forgotten paths and cities where names bore no weight and a soul could wander unburdened. Her life was not bound by blood, by name, or by duty. She chose her path with both hands. She dared. She questioned. She lived.
That call led me here, far from home.
Far from the Great Clan of Adarkhin.
I never wanted the life that laid before me there. My family were from a minor clan in Sharuul, known as Echradyin, and were proud herders for generations, carried a name held in high honor among the clan. But with that name came expectation, rigid, unyielding. I was meant to follow the path carved long before I was born to herd, to obey, to never question.
But I did. I wanted something more. And for that, they turned against me.
So I left, not in shame, but in defiance.
