In-Character
Read the following prompt:
The rhythmic lull of hoofbeats are a marching drum to the small group of pioneers and variety of folk you have found yourself amongst, packed into a wobbling wagon. The rolling plains of the Southern Reach and a clear sky stretch out all around you, the buzz of excited chatter a dull wash in your ears as your mind strays to your former life and what has led you here to new lands.
“Nervous?”
You blink, returning to the present moment. A kindly older woman sat near you is smiling warmly with a crinkle to her eyes.
“I can tell it’s your first time. Still remember mine,” she flashes a grin and leans in.
“Tell me my dear, why have you come to the Reach?”
How do you respond (in character)? (250 word minimum - please make sure to include at least three references to our lore in your response, with two coming from different pages in the Compendium. Two of the three selected should also be in-depth, avoid simply name-dropping lore terms. Tie the terms into your character's backstory. Why are they important to them?)
"Yeah I'm nervous. Never been this far past Crossroads yet..."
It is sleepy eyes that greet the old granny. The girl sits back upright, wiping the inky black tears welling at the corner of her eyes into black, sooty marks. Fae-cursed readjusts her scarf and sits upright, letting out a whince. She looks at her swolen ankle with a pained grimace: It's swolen like an overripe pumpkin.
"Got in a fight with the old priest back home. -Yes, again!"
Azar swings her arm up to make a point but painfully scrapes the scales of her forearm against the caravan's frame. "Damned Dancing Drowners" She exclaims, holding her arm against her chest. She groans in annoyance.
"It ain't my bloody fault I can't tell no damned holy bushel from the other consecrated holy hedge or somesuch! It's all damn leaves and flowers and- stuff! I don't know!"
The girl takes a moment to breathe though it doesn't do much to calm her temper.
"I tried it all! Smithing, alebrewing, foraging, bartering, baking, farming -fuck, I even tried to be a guy for the earlier parts of my life! None of it is working out!" The fire aligned girl meets the eye of the elder with a certain... Sadness deep within.
"That's why I called you, Auntie. I ain't fit to be a Falstoner- At least, not within the little communities. I wanna be someone. I wanna write music, meet great people, fall in love with a few girls, get in a fight over more than whoever gets to eat the hat or the foot of the mushrooms served at faerie's eve back home. I wanna live! So that's why I joined you at Crossroads. I knew you were headed south."
The dreamer looked through the cloth of the caravan, admiring the landscape. "Can't promise I'll stay out of trouble though..."

Character Name: Azar Soothe
Character Race: Fae-Touched (Fire)
Character Age: 23
Brief Physical Description: Whatever fae curse runs in Azar's veins runs strong. Looking like she had been born in an unsettled coal mine, her skin bears a dark, matte colour quite distinct in its neutral hue from the darker skins other races possess. Her hair, similarly coloured, is kept long, unkempt and slightly curly. Her eyes are the colour of unlit darkness: Black as night. Her tears, dark and ink-like, constantly runs down her face and into her clothes, a condition she has since birth. On her forearms are scales, which she keeps covered under wraps, are sensitive and easy to snag against anything, causing pain. Her fire heritage becomes clearer when she is agitated: Smoke billows out of her mouth when the emotions are high and there is a certain... Focus in her eyes, like a candle in the distant depths of a cave, a volcano showing a hint of its true nature.
Standing at an average fae-touched height of 4'7", Azar dresses like a falstoner proper. She enjoys cloaks and colourful outfits which grant the girl colour her complexion could never translate. All purpose gloves keep her dextrous in her many endeavours, which may or may not involve the many pockets and pouches she has hidden in her garments.
