Poster A Rift the Size of a Mountain
Started by kass

(!) Extremely simple posters are placed: one upon the notice board, one within the Assembly, and a third in the Militia's barracks. The handwriting is rough, as if the author struggled deeply to pen it. The posters themselves were seen hung up by passerby's, not the author himself. (!)

Another Rift opened at the halfway point between Albern's Crossing and the Spire.
Given the Militia's overwhelmed numbers, a group of us- myself, alongside Monty, Marcel, Tamerlane, Amicia, Gambeson, Perseus, and Valorian, went forth to close it; as many of us have done thus far before.
I gave a briefing before we set out on what I've experienced, fully aware that it changes each time. But this was unlike anything we were expecting.

This Rift was the size of the mountain we fought it at. It spawned all manner of creature, many of which the weakened pawns we've all battled before; but they were merely that: pawns. The true behemoths were wardens of the Rift itself. They were tethered by the Ether, latched onto the portal, and as we battled, it appeared to be injured by either weapon upon its armor or blade upon its tether.
Neither, however, were means quick enough to slay these beasts.

I will hold a meeting before long, hopefully alongside others that work with the Sundering. But to keep this brief: I was capable of assisting in closing a Rift with the Militia a few weeks back, and attempted that same strategy this time as those around me fought valiantly without pause to keep them occupied. It appears that attacking the Rift directly hurt the beasts the most; however, if you get too close to the Rift, you will be killed. Heed that warning. I will explain further in person, in the next Sundering meeting we plan; as I am running out of room here.

What was different about this Rift was not only its size nor its wardens, but that the Rift
itself attacked. Large tendrils of Ether-magic whipped out as if it had its own arms; trapping me within its grasp.
I was only able to escape thanks to the assistance of the rest of the party; bolt and sword alike keeping the creatures at bay. Tamerlane's magic alongside all of our attacks, and an injury in my arm that seems to repel these beasts, finally pushed the Rift to its brink; and it exploded, as many do. Slaying all the aberrations we did not manage to slay ourselves.

I fear this problem only grows, as the Rifts do.
And I understand that many feel I owe answers; and you are not incorrect. Therefore, I will hold a brief meeting in the coming days, when I am able to leave this hospital.
I will explain the arm. I will answer what I can.
Details of when and where will come shortly.

Until then.
