Read the following prompt:
The rhythmic lull of hoofbeats are a marching drum to the small group of pioneers and variety of folk you have found yourself amongst, packed into a wobbling wagon. The rolling plains of the Southern Reach and a clear sky stretch out all around you, the buzz of excited chatter a dull wash in your ears as your mind strays to your former life and what has led you here to new lands.
“Nervous?”
You blink, returning to the present moment. A kindly older woman sat near you is smiling warmly with a crinkle to her eyes.
“I can tell it’s your first time. Still remember mine,” she flashes a grin and leans in.
“Tell me my dear, why have you come to the Reach?”

— Arlan huffs a half-chuckle as he leans forward in the rocking wagon. "Why do we go anywhere?" he responds. The woman continues to look at him, seemingly dissatisfied with his answer. Her age makes her much wiser than to fall for Arlan's quippy remarks. Arlan, noticing her dissatisfaction, and realizing he is currently getting a free ride that can end at any time, continues speaking, "I have grown tired of my islands. The stories of old, of our histories. Many of fighting for our freedoms and rights. Are the tribes really free when unified under a single ruler? Are we free if we have to listen to one monarch? Many Mistan feel the same, you know." Arlan leans back on the wooden bench of the wagon, his leathers providing a very comfortable cushion for himself.
"So you are chasing freedom?" the woman asks, intrigued.
"Freedom. I am chasing the same freedom my ancestors had in the stories. Sure the isles may not have also been peaceful, but at least we were always free. 'Freedom comes at a price.' was a common phrase in my village. We acknowledged that, accepted it. But not every Mistan has. That's why they unified, at least that's what the elders say. The Serene Monarch has too much power for any of us renegades to resist. She calls the sea and the tides themselves to fight us, some say! Each tribe, each monarch used to rule their own way, and we would ward off any invaders that threaten our ways. So here I am, searching for a lucky coin, or regular riches work too." Arlan is interrupted by the cart hitting a relatively large rock, tossing everyone in the back of the wagon around a bit. Arlan huffs. "You'd think we're still at sea the way this bumpkin is driving!" he exclaims as he throws up his right arm to gesture towards the driver.

Brief Physical Description: Arlan is wearing very raggedy and dirty clothes. He also carries with him a faint smell of fish and the salt seas. Clearly he was a sailor before travelling to this land. His dark hair held in place by salt crystals, but somehow his green eyes still pierce through you when he speaks.
